  • Base model Macbook Airs are very hard to beat for price:performance, especially now the new base model has 16gb of RAM. I've been to numerous local computer shops and felt and tried numerous Windows laptops that were around the same price and they all felt like flimsy plastic trash.

The Mac Mini is also very good for its price and size. My dad is considering a base model Mini to replace his Windows office computer which is on 10 and reached EOL and he doesn't want 11.

  • WeatherCAN which is made and run by Environment Canada (government run). Many weather services and apps get their data from them anyway so might as well get it right from the source.

  • No way in hell I’d pay its nearly $100CAD asking price.

  • Some good news at least. Pattison has pulled out of the sale of their warehouse to ICE.

  • All of Meta/Facebook and it's various domains and services have been blocked in my PiHole for years now. Best decision I've ever made.

  • Should be said that some alternative search sites, such as Ecosia, share some of your information with their upstream search providers which does include Google.

  • I don't know, fear mongering is a very traditional and expected conservative policy. It's the ultimate nothing-burger they use to distract from the real issues that they're not going to fix.

  • I'm guessing the vote required members to travel to Alberta in the middle of winter and vote in-person in order to count. There as no way this was going to swing any other way.

  • It unironically is, and it's not entirely the fault of the users either. The average person doesn't know what FOSS means, what instances are, or what a federated service is and many platforms do a poor job of explaining what those things are and why they are superior.

Additionally, people need to understand that FOSS is not a selling point to the average user and that throwing that term around will go in one ear and out the other. As far as they are concerned their apps are already free because they don't have to pay a transactional monetary value for them and "open source" is beyond meaningless to them and they couldn't care less.

  • Reminder that these same types of fascists have control over nearly every branch of US government and are actively dismantling their democracy. They are not a joke and they need to be taken 120% seriously.

It is time these people started getting the book thrown at them for treason. This is working with a foreign power to undermine the country.

  • Kind of weird to put up a picture of your boss.

  • From my (limited) understanding, China is both as bad and not as bad, depending on what is being compared and who you ask. You kind of have to read between the lines of pro and anti Chinese propaganda to find the nuggets of truth. But absolutely a lot of the criticisms that get levelled against China are 100% valid against western countries too. Like I can't help but roll my eyes when I read about some US official blabbing about Chinese spying when the US has face-tracking Flock cameras on nearly every street corner, intersection, park, pathway, etc.

  • The cult demands more capital. More sacrifice. More more more more.

  • This is called extortion.

  • These are welcomed measures, sure, but a lot more could be done if the government held the our grocery monopoly responsible for their (criminal, imo) actions. If Carney's government went to battle against Loblaw, Pattison, etc it would instantly make him one of the most popular PM's in Canadian history. Words cannot express how badly Canadians, coast to coast, want to see Galen and Loblaw get shafted with a rusty rake.

  • Ouch, those user reviewers don't paint a very pretty picture. Sounds like this could've used more time in the oven.

  • There are numerous ways the world can (and should) hit back at the US economically but there should be a strategic targeting of their tech sector in particular. Those are the companies headed by the billionaires that have propelled Trump upward and keep whispering in his ear, encouraging his fascist ideals. They are a direct threat to Europe's power and sovereignty.

  • Considering US tech companies helped overthrow their democracy - they should all be considered extreme threats to national security.

  • So basically just the deepest fascist base supporters.

  • Yeah, that tends to happen when you blow billions on snake oil.
