You can set up a genetic engineering lab for under 5000 bucks in your garage, and I would prefer you not being able to google how to DIY some super-ebola, thank you very much.
I’ve been saying it for a while, even if we figured out fusion, it wouldn’t see the light of day.
Fusion reactors would be absolutely massive, hugely expensive, centralized facilities that provide something of great value for very little labour input. They're the PERFECT tool of capitalism.
We can apply a purity test here (ie. what qualifies as a university) but.. why except for pedantry?
Well, because it's only true for a veeeeeery narrow definition of "university". If you include other schools, there are British ones that predate it by three centuries. If you don't require current operation in the same building, or allow name changes, there are ancient Greek ones that predate it by more than a millenium.
They made Perrin kill his wife too, because the writers were too incompetent to make the hammer-vs-axe choice in a better way. And then they never bring it up again, except for angst reasons.
I live in the Netherlands, where we don't have water fluoridation because of legal principles. Our laws don't allow medication without knowledge and consent, and fluoride is considered part of that. So if one person disagrees, you can't do it, so we don't do it.
As a result, we have markedly worse dental quality than in places that have naturally high fluoride content
I've started answering all those questions as if asked by a curious child.
"That's a good question, let's go find out together!"
Unlike the child, most adults hate that reply.
