Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•If you are a guy living with a woman you know THIS
7·7 months agoWith the time you save by leaving the seat up, build her a vanity in the bedroom. A couple of Ikea drawers, a standalone desk top, a large freestanding mirror, and some LED strip lights. It’s a fun project and you will both love it. Also put the seat and lid down, that’s nasty
That’s about $7600, $4200, and $2300 in 2025 dollars. Even without travel included, that’s a pretty nice deal.

Slop.@hexbear.net•Liberal US Army Veteran denies that Greta Thunberg was tortured in Israeli captivity even after Thunberg herself came out and revealed the torture methods.
13·9 months agoI’ll preface this by saying that it’s obvious to anyone who read Greta’s statements and has a lick of common sense that this was torture, and the poster would know that if they weren’t a genocide apologist.
From the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment 1.1.1
For the purposes of this Convention, the term “torture” means any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in or incidental to lawful sanctions.
18 USC § 2340(1)
“torture” means an act committed by a person acting under the color of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control;
Yeah it meets the legal definition of torture. Not that it matters, since that’s not a justification for what they did to her even if it was true. And these people are still ignoring the much worse crimes committed against thousands of Palestinians.

7·1 year agoWarm water will soften the polish, but that includes the polish on your nails, so be careful not to dent it or push it around. Really, just avoid anything touching your nails for a few hours. The polish on your skin will come off pretty easy even if it’s totally cured, I’ve never really thought of it as a concern.

politics @lemmy.world•Inside UnitedHealth’s Playbook for Limiting Mental Health Coverage — ProPublica [Nov 19]
5·2 years agoThe part that immediately got me was the clinician hiring a biller to dispute the $20k payback, only for it to be reduced to $10k. They probably paid the biller almost $10k to get the documentation together. For smaller paybacks, the clinic would probably be taking a loss to dispute the charge even if it gets stopped completely. As long as the insurer can provide justification for the charge, there’s basically no way to punish them for doing this, even when the insurer knows the original payment was legit.

231·2 years agoNo, what an utterly ridiculous lie to spread. She would never get “Korean bbq” tattooed on her hand, she’s a multimillionaire with tons of resources at her disposal to prevent a silly mistake like that. Instead, she got “small charcoal grill” instead of “seven rings”. But don’t worry, she got it fixed apparently, so it instead correctly read … “small charcoal finger grill”.

I wonder if people read “read” as “read” or if they read “read” as “read”.
