  • This far from a solution but the thing I do is do a quick search for it on a search engine and look for websites makes a list of the best ones you can buy at the moment. Here's an example: I search for "best hiking shoes for national parks" and many outdoor-focused gear websites will recommend shoes from brands like Columbia and Merrell.

  • Spending a lot less time on my phone and actually being productive and getting back into reading. My attention span has also greatly improved since "dumbifying" my phone; no socials (including fedi accounts), no browser, no Youtube. Just calls and music. I feel so much better and my mental health has improved because of it.

  • Don't give Epic your time or money. Putting aside Fortnite and their pro-AI stance, they forsake the Unreal Tournament series. That's just unforgivable.

    As for Hogwart's Legacy, the game is decent and even fun at first but gets repetitive quick. Bully from 2006 is a similar game minus the magic and lucrative IP attached. A shame it didn't get a sequel.

    And as for J. K. Rowling, forgive me but she's a cunt. I wasn't huge on Harry Potter when growing up so I don't have any nostalgia about the series - be it the books or movies- but I know many of you do. I also know that many of you are LGBTQ+ so how you decided to reconcile with the series is up to you. While you can separate Rowling from your affection to the series, don't give her any more your time, money or attention.

  • Goodness, this article was a pain to read. Every single point raised is easily refutable but there's one particular paragraph I wanted to pick apart:

    Among the plan’s more than 80 demands is a bizarre proposal to build playgrounds smack in the middle of city streets that would then be redesigned into cul-de-sacs — a move the group claims will solve the city’s “playground desert problem.”

    Imagine calling a plan to build more playgrounds - something that would provide a long-term benefit for children- "bizarre" just because it just might remove some streets? I don't want come off as employing the overused "think of the children" argument since it's used to justify censorship but children do, in fact, have a right to clean spaces with breathable, unpolluted air.
