  • Redneck logic.

  • In other news, the Church of England has confirmed that the Earth is indeed flat.

  • Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons. Some of best science-fiction literature ever penned.

However, the author, while a superb writer, is an asshole.

  • He owned an E-Bike shop but supported one of the most oil-friendly presidents in history?

Forget shooting yourself in foot, he shot his own wallet.

  • Kinda of. About 6 months ago, my speakers stopped outputting sound from their proper port on the I/O. Speakers themselves still worked as connecting them to the headphone port produced sound. When I put my PC back together about two weeks ago the sound problem persisted but this time switching sound profiles in the sound setting then switching back to the default, strangely, fixed the problem. It came at the caveat that I have to do it every time at reboot.

  • It show this:

    And this:

  • First, sorry of the late response.

Second, running that command with the -r parameter it returns this:

  • Following the advice of @MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip, I added -r to the line and got back this:

    Feb 13 18:39:31 [user] wireplumber[1081]: wp-event-dispatcher: <WpAsyncEventHook:0x629b62872910> failed:>

This was the very last (or first?) line. If more info is needed, just let me know.

  • Good to know that I'm not the only one. I don't see plane guys and submarine guys using those as their daily drivers. I do have to ask though: am I a hypocrite if I want walkable cities but also want to embrace van life? I would love to get my hands on an old Soviet UAZ-452 and travel around Lake Superior and Lake Tahoe in it.

  • GPU shortage of 2018

    Pandemic-related supply chain disruptions

    NFT craze

And now Altman's bullshit. All I want is to tinker with computers, learning about their inner-workings, the science behind them and play games. Why do profit-driven enterprises always have ruin our hobbies? Just so we can produce slop content to make the internet more bloated than it is already? Is it the worth the water depletion and the environmental destruction?

  • I misread game as grave. I was worried there for a second.

  • The idea wasn't about cleaning your PC but rather cooling it. The idea was that since mineral oil hydrophilic (is that the right word?), it could do a better job than air or water cooling. However, as other have pointed out, it was a massive hassle with marginal benefits.

  • From left clockwise: Cannibal Corpse -> Mayhem -> Bathory -> George Michael

  • I did some research (more than I should for this ancient trite) and this comes from February 1978 issue of High Times magazine. A fucking stoner magazine! What the hell was the writer of some second-rate publication for grass and shrooms doing writing a lust piece about an up-and-coming child actress? What kind of grass would make you want to fuck a child?

Hold on, it gets worse. According to Wikipedia, the article's writer, Ed Dwyer, was the magazine's founding editor. Imagine working at that magazine's office and reading your boss's 1970s equivalent of a horny post.

    1. The first four words of my comment were "I'm no Maoist" quite clearly signaling that I don't affiliate myself with Maoism.
    2. The rest of my comment was in reference to Mao's Land Reform Movement (i.e. those oh-so famous landlord killing memes). You're thinking about Mao's Cultural Revolution and The Great Leap Foward which were separate incidents that did, indeed, kill and starve many innocent people. Mao was tyrant and despot but no one, absolutely no one, missed the landlords. Well, maybe, expect the ones that fled to Daddy Chiang.

This goes beyond not liking a Swedish finance app. This is about the dystopian absurdity of financing your rent payment. It sounds like a plot point from a William Gibson novel. You're borrowing money, that you'll have to pay back with interest, to have a roof over your head; a roof that is not even yours. Klarna would very happy to lend you that money so they can profit from debt and the landlord(s) will be happy because they're still making money without providing value. You don't have be Marxist to see why this is a problem.

  • I'm no Maoist but those 'land reforms' are starting to sound pretty good right now.

  • I would highly advise against this! That would be a health and fire hazard waiting to happen. Isopropyl is good for cleaning your electronics but I wouldn't bathe them in it.

If you still want to try submerging your PC in some kind of liquid, you can try mineral oil. This was a trend in PC building back in the early-mid 2010s but seems to have lost momentum around 2017/2018. I've never done this myself so research thoroughly. Other than that, stick to water-cooling.

Also, at the risk of sounding like an asshole, I would advise quitting smoking.

  • Same. Had to read that headline twice just to be sure.

  • Not just freeze them but nationalize them along with all his companies (except for Twatter and Grok, put them out of their misery) and, as @Gammelfisch@lemmy.world said, throw him into prison. But before we do that, we have to "get rid" of Der Orange Führer.
