  • Maybe, maybe not. I don’t really like to judge people based on hypothetical assumptions. They are shit for various reasons, no doubt about that and I don’t defend proven shitty actions by them, let alone the organization as a whole, I just think we should keep discourse factual, even if it’s about groups we understandably don’t like.

I didn’t and won’t argue against your second source. I know Hamas uses violence, sometimes even torture, against queer Palestinians, I’m not denying that. And the first source is just one of maybe a few instances, which is why I added “at least not systematically”. The original comment just made it sound like Hamas systematically kills a lot of queer Palestinians or even to a similar extent as Israel killing Palestinians / Palestinian children, which just isn’t the case.

Warum? In dem Thread über die Uiguren habe ich mich doch auch überzeugen lassen, auch wenn ich die Vorgehen dort weiterhin eher als Menschenrechtsverletzungen sehe, statt eines Genozids. Und was Israel angeht: Was ist daran problematisch?

  • Why do you think that Jews don’t deserve to have a home?

Because there is no need for one.

Why does every other race and religion in the world get a home but Jews don’t?

Do you think the people of each ethnicity looked at a map and said “Yup, that’s where we’re gonna settle”? Ethnicities (there are no human races) develop naturally within a region, for the most part at least. And why do religions need a home, let alone deserve one?

  • What Hebestreit says here is not to be trusted. He is always beating around the bush when he is being asked these questions, and “we will abide by the law” most likely means “we will find every legal loophole to not have to arrest him”. In another press conference held on 2024-11-22, he was asked to clarify the wording on the released statement about the now actually issued arrest warrant, which was actually lacking a statement like the one from May about abiding by the law. When asked about it, he always responded with “I don’t have to answer, I will just refer you to what’s written in the text”, instead of simply stating that “we will abide by the law”. Furthermore, when asked what the federal government had to check before officially acknowledging the arrest warrant, he mentioned that “lawyers had to check if the ICC was even responsible for issuing such an arrest warrant”, even though Wagner, the spokesperson for the State Department, mentioned that “this court [the ICC] is independent and we respect this independence”. Nothing these spokespeople say makes any sense. They respect the independence of the ICC, but have to check if the ICC is actually responsible and has legal authority to issue an arrest warrant in this case? I’m not buying it. They stand behind the ICC and respect its independence, but only when it alligns with the views of the German federal government, which summarizes German politics as a whole quite well.

You can watch the full press conference here (relevant chapter: Haftbefehl gegen Netanjahu (Tilo), ~5:00-16:20, turn on auto-translation if you don’t speak German).

  • They have active arrest warrants for Netanyahu if he ever steps foot in their jurisdiction.

We do? Last I checked, the arrest warrant only came from the ICC, which Germany technically has to follow, but we haven’t issued our own arrest warrant, haven’t positioned ourselves clearly in support of the ICC’s warrant, and our politicians appear to be working on legal ways to not have to arrest Netanyahu if he actually comes to visit as planned by Friedrich Merz. All parties currently part of the government, with the only possible exception being The Left, seem to be way too much in favor of Israel.

  • I’m not aware of US invasion threats to EU countries

And I’m not aware of Chinese invasion threats to EU countries, now what? While not a full member, Greenland is an OCT member of the EEA.

we’re on a European board talking about Chinese attacks on European infrastructure

I’m aware. But we have many security flaws that don’t just involve China, yet nobody seems to care about. That’s what the meme is criticising. It doesn’t mean we should let China do what it wants, in fact I’m also in favor of eliminating such risks, but it’s only ever “China this, China that”, while ignoring things like e.g. networking infrastructure provided by the US. It’s the one-sided reporting, i.e. red scare, that’s annoying.

Only one of these will be used in a potential war against us since the US is a NATO ally.

For how long though? And spying on politicians and high-ranking army officials is most definitely going to be used against us in a potential war. This already happened, despite us being NATO allies. It wasn’t just EU citizens, they fucking spied on Angela Merkel and other EU officials. But yeah, nothing to worry about, they’re our allies after all…

Keep in mind: “It may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal”

who cares who the US invaded in the past?

I do, and you should too, if you don’t blindly trust your “allies”. Accusing us of whataboutism, while you were writing about “Chinese troops in Ukraine” in response to a meme criticising the one sided reporting on security risks… absolutely wild.
