  • That's smart. Thanks.

  • How do you manage a separate auth (I imagine HTTP auth) with app clients?

  • Yes, but that's not always doable, e.g. on LG TV's.

  • It depends on the TV. They have official clients for Android TV, webOS and some more.

  • If you have a static IP it's super easy. If you don't, it's less easy, but you should configure Plex the same way if you don't want to use their proxy, which lowers the speed anyway.

  • Why not? It depends on your situation, but if you have a static IP or a dyndns service, you can just open a port to your Jellyfin and reach it from anywhere.

You can also stick a reverse proxy in front of it, if you want to feel safer.

  • Yes, but who actually does that?

I honestly have two accounts, one for SFW content and another one on LemmyNSFW. But it's still a bit annoying to switch accounts.

  • And let's be clear, we're talking about the European OG Georgia, not the US state.

  • Yes, exactly. My issues are with the Adobe suite, Affinity and Microsoft Office.

  • Not OP, but I think forums were separate entities, so you could choose a different username on each one and have disconnected identities.

On Reddit, or even here, you have the same identity for all content you follow. People can easily trace out your profile.

  • I wish there was a way to sync those comments between apps and devices.

  • There's a big Italian eMule piracy forum, I don't know if it's a good idea to link it here, but it starts with dd and ends with unlimited. It's based on old-school PhpBB.

Speaking of piracy, another Italian forum is MIR followed by "crew", they share torrents over there.

If you can manage the language barrier, there's a lot of good content over there (usually with double language: Italian + original).

  • Linux Mint it's the mvp now. ElementaryOS is also nice, but more like macOS.

  • I think most malware comes from installing cracked software from non-safe sources.

Linux already has a huge market share in servers, so it's already a prime target for malware. More desktop users won't make it worse.

  • I've never had much luck with Wine running Windows programs, unless the programs were ancient. Maybe I'm just unlucky?

  • Did you switch to Linux?

  • There's a third party file explorer that works amazingly and it's super fast. It's freeware while in beta: https://filepilot.tech/

If a single guy can do it, why can't Microsoft?

  • The funny thing is that both Outlook and OneDrive work way better on the Mac.

I just wish they were available for Linux.

  • We also had the Do Not Track header, and then Microsoft fucked it up and now no browsers support it.
