  • Damn, this is seriously fucked up and dystopian.

You shoot a movie, why cannot I share my favourite scenes with other people?

  • Yeah but this was on a Danish subreddit, focusing on Danish actresses.

I bet there was a lot of delicious content, but the sub has been banned.

  • Still looks better than the first Steam Controller. It was atrocious.

  • Yes. I wonder how many people unknowingly updated Simple Mobile Tools apps after the new owner's buy-in.

  • Proton stores senders and subjects in clear text. Only the content of the email is encrypted.

That means that the Swiss government can easily force them to handle out that data.

  • A good and super cheap hosting provider for emails is PurelyMail, albeit it's based in the US

  • +1 for Proton as a security theatre.

Proton is not safe, the Swiss government can (and did, in fact) ask Proton for users' IP addresses and metadata.

Plus, Proton forces you to use their client instead of standard IMAP.

  • Same in Danish (køleskab). And I bet it's the same in Norwegian?

  • They connect to the Have I Been Pwned database in a secure way.

They make a hash of your password and send just the first characters.

  • Honest question, why would you need a VPN if you want to download from private trackers?

Usually, copyright owners target people on public trackers and on the DHT. Not a problem if you only get into private trackers.

  • Why would you need a VPN? Is it for pirating content?

  • I used to love GNOME 2, but now it's unbearable. It looks and it behaves as if it's a toy for kids.

Also, why do apps have buttons in their title bar? It makes no sense.

I'm sad that a good open source project such as GNOME has become so bad.

  • Exactly. I was using Nero in 2005...

  • I'd like to add that accessing your things from outside the home is relatively simple if you have a static IP and you setup a VPN to your home with Wireguard.

Some advanced routers even have native support for Wireguard, like the Freebox in France or the Iliadbox in Italy.

  • Problem is, 99% of people don't even know what open standards are.

  • It's because they don't want to break compatibility with existing software. Which I understand, because if they broke old software then people could just migrate to Linux as well

  • We need to protect Linus at all costs.

  • The old Reddit interface is always the best one.
