  • I can't count how many times I've heard someone near me say something about how minority groups in the UK are just going around stabbing each other or shooting up drugs, and also immigrants are stabbing everyone and doing all the drugs, and also the teenagers are getting wasted every night... Etc...

    Like.... What possible news source could you be basing this off? I'll admit I don't keep up with global news like I could, but it seems pretty stab-free in the UK and that's why it's such a big deal when it does happen.

    Also just this past month I've heard someone talk shit about gun control because of a shooting in a relatively gun-free country "look how that helped them".... Uhhhhhh yeah let's just ignore all the mass shootings in our own backyard that don't even make news anymore because it's so frequent.

    Reality means nothing to these people, only what they(re told to) feel at that particular moment.

  • A local church got fined something like 150k for hosting a soup kitchen every Thursday and only stopped because cops started breaking it up and arresting people.

    In the same month, the only local food bank closed for a plethora of reasons (no donations, lack of enough/consistent volunteers, etc)

    Cops started threatening to arrest people who gave anyone food on the side of the road.

    Genuine question: what are homeless/starving people supposed to do now?

    I mean, we all know the answer, I just want the Fuckwads to say it out loud and stop pretending.

  • Honestly I've thought cm002 was a bot before as well, but they engage in comment sections often enough to say either it's not, or it's a user hopping on to check bot progress.

    Either way, most likely case is it's a user that saw a funny meme, and reposted it since not every sire is federated with others and some communities might not see it, especially if it's to a world or ml domain.

    Possibly related, I did not see your post from this morning, this is my first time seeing it. Not sure about federation between instances but yeah.

    Also tangentially related, anyone remember the huge r*ddit drama over a poweruser constantly reposting things with top comment responses to farm karma? That was a fun glance into people who take imaginary internet points too seriously. I'm glad lemmy doesn't keep track of total votes.

  • Think of it like when you know you need to have the car keys taken from grandpa because he's an actual danger to himself and others.

    But it's easier said than done, especially when grandpa is surrounded by people who either refuse to acknowledge his bad driving, or actively encourage him to go out and drive.

    Also grandpa is armed and there's no guarantee that any of the people around him will stop him from shooting you and everyone in the neighborhood for trying.

    And don't forget that half your siblings are actively cheering grandpa on and calling you slurs for even suggesting something is wrong, and they are also armed and aching for an excuse to shoot you. Your own gun isn't much use since you aren't close to grandpa, and by yourself you can accomplish little to nothing, and you can't reliably call your saner siblings to help out without drawing grandpa's caregivers attention.

    The whole government is one giant dementia patient and needs to be burned to the ground so we can build something better, but there's no guarantee any of your siblings will make it or even be successful.

    Unrelated, my mental health is great these days.

  • In a way that will realistically never happen in such a large country that arms it's police like they're military.

    I'll happily arm up, call the people I train with, and get to work. unfortunately without large scale organization that simply isn't allowed by the alphabet squads because "domestic terrorism" or any number of made up bullshit claims (any leftist/progressive group. see also: black Panthers) the only thing that would result is 1-15 people dead in the street. Or more likely their beds, because they got raided at 2am and the cops just dropped grenades on their houses/apartments.

    I do love how much I've been seeing ".ca" users clearly advocating that the US go through another revolution/civil war/domestic disturbance that causes the deaths of thousands, if not millions.
