  • Hell yeah! Well done! That’s a massive accomplishment! I would say that if you can run for the length of time to complete a 4k you have hit the strength and cardio fitness you need for a 5km already! From this point 5km goal is almost entirely psychological! Which is great news!

In my experience from here the most important thing is to remember to warm up and cool down. As you want to keep training and go further / faster / more often, the main barrier to that is injury. I never used to bother taking warm up or cool down seriously and I kept getting injured / shin splints etc. And then I couldn’t train any more until I recovered by which time I’d lost fitness and couldn’t make progress. I took some convincing to start taking it more seriously but once I started doing proper warm ups and cool downs I magically stopped getting hurt. Weird hu? I don’t even do much, 10ish slow calf raises off the bottom step and then walking for about 5 mins before and after running. Makes all the difference for me but you’ll have to find the exercises and stretches that work for your body. Perhaps you have a specific injury and need to loosen that joint or a particular tight muscle that will cause you issues if you don’t warm it up first (e.g. my calves hence the raises). I have a friend who basically does a full yoga routine before she’ll even consider a run and another who does nothing at all - but you have to find what works for you!

Great work again! Running gets so good when you get into it. Keep it up!

  • Right, so you want eMacs evil mode with some choice vim plugins. Excellent vim emulation. The terminal interface is pretty good, and the GUI version has some excellent markdown plugins that give you a live preview. Get started with doom-emacs as it’s very pro vim and modernised out of the box. Then once you’ve got into eMacs you’ll not have any issues with free time ever again, as everything you could possibly want to do you’ll be doomed to finding out how to do in eMacs.

  • I’ve used both at various hotels and gyms, but owned neither and I’m not a big rower so perhaps I’m not the best judge. In my opinion the water rower is nicer to look at by a mile. It almost looks like a nice piece of furniture. And the wood comes in different stains to match your decor. It’s also way quieter in use and feels a little more like rowing an actual boat. If I owned a fancy wood panelled home gym with big windows looking across my boating lake I’d have a water rower without a shadow of a doubt (alas, I own none of the above!) Though with that said I think the c2 is the gold standard for a reason. The water rower is a luxury item, and needs some maintenance. The c2 is nukeproof and works fantastically.

Also the c2 is in every gym and loads of people use them, which means you can compare notes against people and be taking about the same thing which is cool. Loads of pro athletes including rowing teams and clubs use the c2 - they can’t all be wrong!

    NO

Tankie is a meaningless word. If you point out China has undeniably made progress under communism, you’re a tankie. If you point out Stalin wasn’t the evil dictator westerners make him out to be (even though it’s disproven by the literal CIA itself) you’re a tankie, if you think capitalism is causing problems in the USA you’re a tankie. If you criticise US or NATO foreign policy you’re a tankie. If you criticise the Republicans you’re a Tankie. If you criticise the Dems, guess what also a tankie. If you think that the USSR and the PRC are/were perfect little angels that never made any mistakes or did anything wrong ever then you’re also a Tankie.

It’s just too broad a term for me or anyone to identify with any way. It’s not an ideology. It’s a dumb insult to dismiss the opinions of others you disagree with without having to engage with their point at all or critically analyse your own beliefs in any meaningful way.
