  • Thanks! It's a drawing tablet which uses a stylus, rather than touch or fingers, so it behaves more like a mouse. Would that mode still work?

  • Thanks for the info :) That does sound nice, but often I find myself using my computer with a drawing tablet in a weird position, which means getting to my keyboard can be a hassle. I can program some hot keys into my tablet but it's limited. If it's just one button to press to bring up menus that's fine, but if it's option+a key per function I need, I wouldn't have enough buttons basically. I guess I'm looking for a user experience that would let me do all of my everyday functions using only a cursor or a mouse, and maybe 5-8 hotkey combinations/macros.

  • I've been working on "moving in" to Linux Mint, and I've been annoyed and frustrated by things like how hard it is to pin a program to taskbar, or find my recently used folders, or how it seems most installations disappear into a mysterious void and don't let me put them in directories of my choosing.

    How is PopOS in the context of being able to do most things through a GUI or at least menus that don't involve terminal usage, or hotkeys I have to constantly look up? Is the general desktop environment polished and thoughtfully designed? I think I'd be up for a drastically new interface after a lifetime of Windows if it at least was intuitive, navigable through menus and made sense.

  • I was an incredibly angsty teenager, mad at the world and hostile to just about everyone by default. Apathetic, grumpy, and uninterested in physical activity or the things I liked as a preteen.

    After having a baby and getting very little sleep for 6 months I recognized some of my old patterns. Turns out, it wasn't just part of being a teen, I was chronically sleep deprived. I was up at 6am most days back then, when I would sleep until 1pm on weekends. I think a lot of teens are unfairly characterized as angry and defiant when they're operating on half or a quarter of the sleep they need.

  • Setting it to private would limit its discoverability for people who are welcome to contribute, which as you say, is about half of all people. Some people like to lurk and read without posting which is perfectly fine and even welcomed. It's not a private forum, it's a forum that just asks men not to post.

And it requires every single new person that arrives in the fediverse to learn about this group, learn about their rule, learn how to block a group, and then go ahead and block it.   • There are definitely cats that need companionship and lots of socializing, but there are also cats that are perfectly content with an hour or two of your time, and cuddling in and lying on your bed with you while you sleep can also fulfill that need. 40 hours a week still means plenty of time with you physically in the house. I've had cats all my life and seen lots of personalities. I think it'll be important to find the right cat but they are absolutely out there. I say go for it.

  • Yep absolutely seconding this one. Everything is very much a play-as-you-want playground, with many ways to level and a low stress, community based world. Pretty much everything that causes friction against other players in other MMOs (kill stealing, limited resource mining, open world pvp etc) just isn't in the game or in its own place you don't have to go.

    I will say that it has a lot of complexity and systems on systems that have built up over time that can be opaque and overwhelming. But again, you have the choice not to engage, and can do perfectly well running your character around maps exploring and picking cabbages and pumpkins and doing whatever you think looks interesting. Just remember to change out your armor and weapons every few levels on your way to 80.

  • Double clicking issues after a lot of use is extremely common, due to the way mouse switches are made. There's a tiny little metal piece that holds the switch up, and with a lot of use the metal starts to deform and then it doesn't spring back up like it should. The good news is that if you want to, it's something that can be fixed with a bit of time, patience, some precision screwdrivers and some tweezers. You can replace the switch entirely if you're comfortable with a soldering iron, but if you open up the switch you can retension the leaf spring and get some more use out of it.

  • If people are generally nice to you by default, and willing to break little rules for you, you are probably attractive. Attractive people are treated better on average, and strangers you interact with who have no obligations to you will have a positive bias towards you. They might let you into the shop to grab something real quick as they close, or a person on break might help you when they were off the clock, or invite you to take something normally reserved for a specific group you're not a part of. Those are perks and special treatment, and not the norm for people who are unattractive.

    If you find yourself thinking "well people do that for me sometimes but it's just because I'm polite and friendly" or something, now you're getting it.

  • I have a tendency to get fixated on something creative, and then pour hours and hours into it while not doing other things that I should be. As a result I have some eclectic creative talents, one of which was playing the musical instruments in Guild Wars 2. They let you play notes with the number keys and I got really into making arrangements and performing for people waiting for boss spawns. I played for hours just enjoying making music and I ended up being pretty well known in the community for a while. I would say only 2 or 3 other people were as good as me at one point. I'm out of practice now but it's always a treat when I hear someone playing one of my arrangements.

  • I like sodas that are off the beaten path, so my favorite is Belvoir Rose & Elderflower sparkling lemonade. It's the perfect summer treat after coming inside from the heat. It's fantastic even when it's watered down, or mixed into a cocktail, or if you add it to lemonade, but it's great just on its own. I love floral and herbal flavors and it's just lovely.

    My other favorite would be Reed's Ginger Ale, one of the few ginger ales you can buy made with actual ginger. It comes in several "strengths" and I like them all.

  • I remember seeing these ads as an impressionable young gamer and getting the idea that Playstations had games that were scary and weird, and Nintendo games and handhelds were for boys. Generally the ads told me "this is not for you". Because I only ever saw ads for specific PC games and never for PCs themselves, (they were aimed at adults, not in the kind of magazines and comics young me was perusing) even though I was still not the target market it clicked more with me. I think that might be a part of why I've only ever really gotten into PC games over the years. I knew there were games I'd like and games I wouldn't, and never got the same platform level messaging.

    I remember seeing an ad for Thief and thought it looked cool, and I remember being super grossed out by that Quake 3 ad, but I never felt unwelcome or out of place playing PC games. In contrast, the focus on marketing to young males is really obvious in those console ads.
