  • When you think about it, it’s not really that different from learning to read faster, which is a valued skill.

(There’s an argument to be made that for many things you’d be better off reading rather than watching YouTube vids at 4x but let’s not focus on that.)

  • I’m with you - celery is horrid. Right up there with coriander for me as something that completely overpowers and ruins anything it’s used in.

  • Are you eating bagels in the shower?

  • When they say ‘faster playback speeds’ they don’t mean faster connection speeds, they mean watching videos at 1.5x normal speed (or faster).

  • Being repeatedly told subconsciously if not directly that your expertise is not valued or needed anymore - that really dehumanizes you as a person. And I’m still working through the pain of the two-year-long process that demolished my future in that profession.

It’s one of those rare times in life when a man cries because he is just feeling so dehumanized and unappreciated despite pouring his life, heart and soul into something.

Too easy sometimes to get caught up in technical debates, environmental issues, and snark, but it’s worth remembering that there’s also a real human impact to AI adoption.

  • Hadn’t heard of this but it looks fun!

  • ShaderGlass should allow you to run with a CRT shader without interfering with anticheat. (It doesn’t inject anything, just acts as a screen overlay.)

  • I’ve always developed my own medium format Ilford HP5 with little to no issues.

Honestly, getting film on those plastic spools can be tricky regardless of the film. There are a few tricks people suggest that might help (e.g. lubricating the ball bearings with pencil graphite, and using an old scrap of film as a lead-in to get you started) but loading them is something you just have to get better at over time.

  • I don’t think Netflix care about WB Games at all.

'We actually didn't attribute any value' to Warner's game studios, Netflix boss says about the acquisition deal (Source)

  • Depends which version of Nightfire you played. The PC and console versions are very different.

  • The fact they had to do this to earn a promotion is an institutional problem. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

  • Have always had artificial. My parents still use the same tree they used when I was a kid. When my wife and I bought our own place we invested in a good quality artificial and I expect it to last just as long.

Real trees are a nice idea but I’ve seen far too many horror stories about them causing fires, and even if they don’t go up in flames they still drop needles and insects everywhere. Why take the risk?

  • JP Allard says his company uses AI to create adverts with authenticity, heart and emotion

    hahahahahaha

  • As per the HN comments:

This link is for some shitty and obviously vibecoded website that stole an indie game from itch.io and monetized it through ads without giving any credit to the developer.

  • What we’ve found so far is basically the inverse of what we found when comparing handhelds: Windows usually has an edge on SteamOS’s performance, and sometimes that gap is quite large.

    Lemmy won’t like this

  • If/when the bubble bursts we’ll have bigger problems than the price of RAM.

  • Most people who mock American football as ‘rugby for wusses’ (or similar) don’t even know how the game works, let alone what the legitimate differences are.

  • It might give you some comfort to know that that exact flaw has been noted many times before about the test. It’s even mentioned on the wiki page:

the test has been met with some criticism for the dichotomous nature of its question-asking method

Ultimately, the utility of Bartle’s research is not so people can self-test, but that it gives a useful set of target audiences to refer to when designing a game.
