  • lol serves its own grammatical function now I reckon.

It's a marker for response to irony (actual irony, Americans...), or as a way to indicate you think something is stupid to the point of humour, or as a kind of "that tracks".

Or at least, that's how it's used amongst people my age in Australia.

I don't think I use it in a positive sense at all any more

  • This is a great propaganda* image. Yoink ⚒️

word used in the neural sense

  • The general strike in Minneapolis shows what the working class can achieve.

From the provinces (Australia), I suggest you join whatever local movements exist.

I'm wishing you great success, because I worry what will be in store for us if the US falls even further into racism.

    Stay strong friend

  • They won't because we are expected to toe the imperial line. We are a vassal state of the US.

It's batshit that DFAT haven't issue a travel warning, I agree. There's warnings for China (reasonable), but damn, I feel no worry about travelling to China, just don't do anything political.

I'd never in a million years consider travelling to the US.

  • Props to the camera person for showing the message.

    Every small resistance counts ✊

  • As a one of her foreign subjects. May I say god save the Queen, because nothing will save the Governor General.

Fuck the queen, fuck the monarchy.

  • Sounds illegal

  • Source? If someone said this, that's basically an admission of guilt.

  • Some. Many, if not most, are just flawed human beings.

I don't enjoy this "everyone sucks" mentality you see online a lot.

  • Using an LLM for anything other than language, weird software questions, and really terrible low-stakes coding just seems like a stupid idea to me.

It can save time in certain contexts, but pretty much only in writing you some headings for a report or something. Using it for NUMBERS is insane.

  • Oh yeah, no issue with how you've used it. I'm just publically grumbling about the term's existence haha

  • employee-owned

is such a euphemism, in my opinion. Law firms are often "employee-owned".

It has internal shareholders, they're not a co-op, and should be viewed like any other for profit business.

  • Is the Sabbath Sunday? I thought it was Saturday. But regardless, some countries start the week on Sunday.

It's cursed as heck when we call Saturday and Sunday the weekend.

  • 2015 can be written as Y-2.015E3S4

When would this ever be required, wtf hahaha

  • I routinely do this in emails and documents. No one has ever questioned me on it because they're used to it from folder/file names.

Please do join me in slowly changing the world over to year, month, day order.

(Though I prefer the non-standard dots instead of hyphens, as they are non-line-breaking, and allows for hyphens to be used as separators for other parts in a file along with underscores)

    YYYY.MM.DD is my fave

  • I'm glad this meme is known internationally

  • Is it? Seemed like a dig specifically at the fact that China doesn't have a true union movement. Not a dog at communism in general.

China isn't communist, nor very socialist, for that matter.

Capitalism with Chinese characteristics seems more of an apt description.

Pointing out that China is a dictatorship doesn't mean that socialism is bad.

  • My least favourite argument is them pointing to the reduction in poverty.

Like, I could say the same for capitalism. Which I won't because capitalism needs to be abolished, but just "there was a massive reduction in poverty therefore system good" is stupid.

Tankies aren't socialists in my eyes because socialism necessarily needs to be democratic control by the people.

  • Fault based divorce is already a stupid concept (under the law).

Someone MAY be at fault, but you should never need to provide a reason beyond "I don't want to anymore" to commence divorce proceedings.

Marriage is just legal protections for the partners in the event of a separation (i.e. rights to split assets and whatnot).

    But it's still entirely voluntary.

    Well, in nice countries anyway.

Do you even know what tankie means?
