  • How do cameras make any difference?

  • And good luck getting a judge to hear your side of it. Not impossible, but then you're missing a day of work for a maybe...

  • What is "implemented properly" and how often does it happen?

  • Speed cameras also won't stop someone like that. Though they might take nice pictures of the wreck.

  • I don't know about the best (because I started back in the 80s with a commodore 64, not exactly repeatable) but a good way is this guy: https://eater.net/6502

  • Study a 6502. It's just electrons doing the only thing they can.

  • Years ago, I read the book Empire because I had been a fan of OSC and didn't know yet what a dickhead he was. The book describes more or less exactly what you said, it was comical, but also kind of sad.

  • And when some asshole merges in front of you going 30mph when traffic is going 60-70 and there's no way you can avoid it, so you bounce off him into someone else and it ends up being a 5-car pileup, it's ok because at least he wasn't speeding.

  • I put my leftover pizza in a Ziploc bag, it doesn't dry out even after a week (and probably longer, but at that point something else is eating it...)

  • Would the chase not be more dangerous than whatever you are being fined for ?

It's not just cars, just recently cops in New York City shot each other and several bystanders on the subway trying to hit a guy with a knife they had been following over a <$3 fare evasion. Land of the free, home of the brave.

  • If we could count on unsafe drivers getting tickets, then maybe that would be acceptable, but that's not how it works. It's really hard to quantity "safety". It's really easy to quantity speed. It's difficult to quantify what speed is safe, so in most cases, we pick an arbitrary number, which damn near everyone ignores. At least where I live, 5 over is a minimum, 10-15 over is common. So cops can pretty much pull anyone over at a whim. And they do. But they don't make a dent in actual unsafe driving.

  • If only we had that, rather than revenue generation...

  • That works, just ask my two kids.

  • Anarcho-syndicalist commune.

  • AFRICAN-American

Well, that started out as a euphemism for "black" because some people decided that made them uncomfortable... Of course in the literal sense, Elon Musk is African American, even though everyone knows that's not what's intended...

  • stills from an uncompressed video are that clear

All video is compressed, it's just a question of how much. That said, they released the video, someone linked it, it is remarkably clear, so I concede that he did have a knife. However, it doesn't look like he "charged at the cops" with it, rather he was running away, but didn't realize one of the cops had gotten on the other side of him. You can really see his oh shit moment when he realizes the person he's running toward is another cop, and he stops, but they're already shooting him (and each other, and several passengers) by then. What was the rush? The train wasn't going anywhere.
