Hell if I remember so long ago, redhat was in the mix, then mandrake… I ran Gentoo for years on a server, until I got bitten by some upgrade woes, then switched to Debian, then arch, now truenas. Meanwhile on my desktop I bounced around even more… Ubuntu until the stupid wannabe metro UI, then switched to mint, which I used exclusively (as in without dual-booting windows) for a while… Meanwhile my laptop dual boots Manjaro alongside windows 11…
Mine was slackware in I think 1997?

That sounds like technical jargon…
That was typical of cars made (for US market) in the early to mid 80s… Can’t remember for sure if it was part of the whole national 55mph speed limit, but I’d bet it was.
I don’t remember a once-in-a-generation economic crisis in 2002… I remember the dotcom bust and my dad watching his retirement evaporate in 2000…
1·1 month agoI blame office staff- when I had my wisdom teeth removed, it was going to be a shit show, so they sold me on “putting me under”- insurance would only cover local, but “you don’t want to be awake for all the digging and prying” which did not sound like fun so I agreed, at a cost of $400. Of course I woke up in the middle of it, and got to experience the digging and prying… Didn’t hurt at all, but it was still disconcerting. I found out later this wasn’t anything unusual. Had I known I would have been awake, I wouldn’t have spent the extra money.
