Just a dude on the internet, looking for content and fun! I love Linux, gaming, writing, reading, music, anime, walks, and occasionally movies too. Chronically ill and anxious too, that makes life quite interesting...At times.

  • I feel some kind of warning is deeply important, as it allows people to decide to skip a post instead of reading it in detail. Personally, I prefer to be given a chance to gird my brain against the potential onslaught of feelings that a serious, dark topic post might bring up. If I am ready to read and engage with a post of that nature, often a productive discussion is had as a result. As for general Trigger Warnings, I appreciate those as they activate my automated mental hardening responses and allow me to read without being overly concerned or stressed.

  • Hmm, yeah, that's not at all surprising. I've seen so much femboy art and those who embody the concept of femboy to a T. Straight men are kinda like the color beige, the expected default, and that can be quite boring.

  • Yikes, honestly if I were using rsyslog, I'd figure out how to switch to another utility that would provide it without any AI implemented in the human teams dev processes.

  • LMAO All these right, white men seem to throw a temper tantrum whenever real consequences for being a shitty social network (or a different shitty thing), I think X needs to be abolished instead. After Musk pays the fines, that is!

  • While I would never use a phone any smaller than 6.3 inches, I understand that others have differing needs than myself. Having a variety of devices to suit the needs of potential customers is a sound strategy. In the future, I want to see different OS choices that aren't just either stock Android; different ROMs of Android as an option to choose from would be nice!

  • Yikes, the AI computer thing gives me the ick; however, it seems that they are being a bit less nonsense with a smartphone. Though, given the market trends, it will be a tough space to break into because there are so many established brands. However, if Jolla can put their whole ass into this and make it privacy focused and consumer friendly Linux smartphone...They might stand a chance. Also, I hope they also make a larger screened device, I am tired of the smaller 6.3 inch screens. I'd love for them to make a 6.7 inch screen phone (also make it international version with a lot of carrier compatibility for maximum adoption potential).

I've looked at their Sailfish OS and honestly wished it were chosen by corporations more often...As the overall design seems quite nice, while being approachable. You are allowed to be as hands off or as hands on as you'd like to be with getting into the guts of this OS.

  • This is why I always have a backup USB of another distro if there is an issue that is truly vexing to solve through normal means.

  • That's actually pretty cool...I am considering using this service, after paying off the last device I plan to get from T-Mobile (I will be switching to Android first as I tire of iOS).

  • LOL It's actually up us to force CEOs and the government into a situation where they can't do whatever the fuck they want and causes further suffering to everyday people. Complying in advance is so passe, the new thing is: "Fuck you, make me".

  • As a regular joe on the web, it doesn't affect me directly, yet. However, I foresee more slop sites getting put out there in as the Execucult's naked desire to worship and exalt the thing they are desperately trying to make fetch: AI. This year is so fucking weird with all the AI glazing and executives trying to desperately will AI into a moneymaking thing. Spoiler Alert: It's probably going to continue hemorrhaging money as most people can't be arsed to use it nor do they want products with it crammed in.

  • Who would've thought?! Given how they designed their artificially incompetent creations to be complaisant bundles of algorithms designed to maximize the engagement from vulnerable users. "AI" validates anything that it is told, don't actually get users real human assistance when they have a mental crisis. These tools can be easily prompted into divulging suicide methods and deliberately isolate vulnerable people in order to maintain engagement. Until we regulate the fuck out of companies like OpenAI and the research+development process of "AI", this will be a problem that more people will experience.

  • I want to know if AI was used or not to make a game; it's a deciding factor for me, as I will not buy anything built with AI. No matter if it's a placeholder or not, as "AI" is an ethical and environmental concern for me, every prompt, and usage makes things worse. For me, I don't want to send a message that using "AI" is okay for a dev studio by buying the product. I'll exclude them my purchasing choices to send the right message.

  • Some machine learning isn't inherently harmful. The issue is when techbros go to the extremes that they have with "AI" and the level of damage they've done; implanting the idea of replacing creatives with their slop generating hallucination engines, compromising systems with inherently insecure "AI" tools. In most cases, a user isn't given the option to refuse these tools (as corps are desperate for people to use these tools). Using stolen data to train their "AI", extreme power and water usage per prompt honestly disgusts me in a visceral way. It's not even profitable, which confuses me as to why they'd try to desperately shill this tech swill.

Eh, Harper does seem like it is powered by machine learning, nothing inherently malicious though. Seems like a lot of the rules were set by those with an understanding of grammar and spelling.

  • I installed this and will be trying it out over the next several days! Grammar checkers are so useful, as they've improved my own grammar over the course of many years. It just sucks that most of them have gone darksided and drank deeply of the AI poison.

  • Wow, I'm certifiably loony in this case! As I don't rely on AI to do anything for me, as my brain is fully functional and allows me to make conscious decisions that aren't hallucinated.

It makes sense that a company that has devoted so many resources to AI development is trying to get its workers to integrate it in their work flows; it's free training and will make their Torment Nexus potentially less cumbersome when they finally divest more human workers and increase unemployment rates for tech sector workers. The fact that Google is also pushing for it is worrying, as I did plan on moving back to Android; I'll likely avoid a lot of Google made apps in that case, since Samsung seems to not be on the Vibe Coding Train, I'll use most of theirs instead. Even though, it will likely be a shitshow given how ineffective such tools actually are and why skeptical, skilled humans are necessary to make generated code work reliably. I hope that this hurts Nvidia as a brand.

  • I'm just a very anxious guy, that shit really amplifies the baseline feeling of anxiety clawing at my brain; sniff tests will be done, as I'll be using it again for something I want to eat post cooking (just can't make overnight oats). Won't be wasteful when it can be helped, gotta make the most of what I've got.

  • Yeah, it was super busy on the day of my post, to the point defensive cart driving was necessary. I dunno about fancy coffee (as it's store brand) but, it's always a bit nicer grinding those beans before you brew them; I will concede choosing a better brand of jar preserved pears (Polar) made a huge difference to my cooked rolled oats. Heh, never worried about my paycheck to paycheck life, it's just a reality for those that didn't have the energy to claw their way up.

I did enjoy my video game time, but only wrote some notes, which was sad...At least it was a fun day off, as that is what truly matters!

  • Eh, honestly, Mint or Ubuntu would be a solid shout in this case. Both Linux distros are easy to use, having a lot of graphical tools that make interacting with the system easier. Steam+Heroic Launcher makes gaming a breeze for me (I'm running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on my gaming+productivity rig).

  • Thanks, I hate it...Doing anything they can to normalize aberrant behavior like a lack of boundaries between employees and the corporation is pretty disgusting. Like ma'am you make loads of money, the average worker will never see that type of money in their lifetime. Work-life balance is crucial to being able to maintain energy to perform well at work, so many studies show that. She can't be bothered to admit she's a workaholic with no boundaries and is trying to conflate violating employee/corp boundaries as being flexible with one's time. This is a cursed article in my opinion. Useful for getting insight into those strange exec thoughts, though...
