For long running shows I think it leads to sunk cost that leads to people watching it even if isn't great or they hate it just to get closure to something they followed for nearly a decade.
There's lot to watch if you look beyond just western media. I've moved to watching lot of anime and kdramas. Bloodhounds was like a live action boxing anime. And for jdrama, Gannibal which has the actor from Tokyo Vice looks interesting and series is finished, so planning to check that one out.
