  • Point is people often just view money from what can you buy outright to decide if something is a lot of money, but even wealthy people don't always choose to buy property outright choosing to go with mortgages. They prefer to invest in other things instead of tying up all their money in one lump sum to one real estate property might be one reason.

When you calculate how many years or decades and what age you'd be to have accrued that much money it really sinks in how much money that really is. And how much money you need to be at a stage where you have a livable indefinite flow of money coming in, which is a huge milestone in life.

Like 100k at a glance might not be impressive, but then when you stop and realize that 100k is just coming in every year without reliance on a job and how much uncertainty there can be in the job market you realize how life changing it actually is. And how much wealth it is. People kind of lose sight despite not having that much money because they keep comparing things to the most extravagant displays of wealth.

So sure you might not be able to buy property outright, but you can take out mortage and not work and still have more secure state of finances than someone who is making 100k working and can be let go at any time and doesn't have even a million in savings to fall back on.

  • But, when its an indefinite source of 100k for essentially life that it covers the monthly cost of mortgage which ends up steadier than the unpredictability of rent I think that is super rich in my eyes.

Because the big thing is the continued 100k isn't unpredictable like the uncertainty of the job market, which can get worse as people get older with companies looking to lay them off for the next generation who will take less and new skills.

So it might not seem the stereotypical super rich of private jets and mansion, but once you look at the stability of the money source it is deceptively super rich. Like the millionaire next door type rich, and the type of rich that would take the average person decades and decades of saving and investments turning out well to attain and be super old by then.

  • Safari has the worst adblock options of the browsers I've tried. So absolute bottom choice from me.

Brave is brought up as an alternative to Firefox but that has the same AI and also crypto on top of it.

  • If brave is able to have their own adblock integrated into the browser by default despite Google being behind much of Chrome I think Firefox forks should be fine. Sucks everything seems to have AI these days shoved in, so it's hard to escape whether it is Chrome forks or chromium alternatives.

  • First season was great but then second season felt like 3 episodes stretched out over 8 with them repeating the same plotline over and over as though they ran out of money. And they botched what was a Red Wedding type hype plot to a forgettable one nobody cared about.

Book is finished and House of the Dragon only covers a small portion of Fire and Blood. So I finished it through the book. The writing was just not good for the show and it relied heavily on special effects of the dragons to do the heavy lifting.

  • I have one m.2 and multiple sata ssd, since on my motherboard occupying the second m.2 slot would drop the pcie lane for my GPU due to sharing bandwidth.

Do newer boards not have that problem?

  • It is so bizzare to me why the rest of the world has been so comfortable with meta services and been using their social media for years when they've come across as a company to not trust with that information

But, I'm probably the weird one looking like im putting tinfoil on my windows and head to the average person.

  • That doesn't look too hard to follow. Thanks for the link to the guide.

  • Yeah, I don't feel like being part of the reason algorithm pushes shit titles like this on youtube.

  • How's using termux to run syncthing? And any good guides?

  • Even when well meaning sometimes malicious code can slip through like with smarttubenext due to a compromised machine.

So I think people forget that just because something is foss doesn't mean it is automatically safe and caution can be thrown to the wind. Skepticism and being overcautious is still good practice before installing things.

I like to wait a while before installing new updates just to see if anything is caught by the community to try to reduce potential risk.

  • It's just the process of the handover that is making people skittish with the github going private then reappearing with a new maintainer.

I think best route would have been for researchxxl to just fork syncthing-fork to put on F-droid, and catfriend1 just leave their branch archived with an endorsement of researchxxl.

After some time passes and researchxxl gains trust in the community I'm sure people will trust their work. The transition just wasn't handled well.

  • Go take a look at their comments on their profile. Lot of AI talk there.

I'm guessing people aren't pro copyright, but its their argument in conjunction with AI that has led to the downvotes.

  • You wouldn't know them. They go to a different school.

  • Not all gamers can even do something as simple as installing Windows off a usb stick. The tech illiteracy of PC users can't be overestimated. There's PC users who buy high refesh rate monitors then use them at 60 hz. Anyone can buy a prebuilt.

  • Probably because their angle is to find opportunities to push an AI positive agenda whether copyright is involved or not.

  • Dualboot might work better with ltsc iot version of windows, which even if you only use Windows you should be opting for anyways over the copilot and account requirement forcing consumer version of Windows that pushes out unstable new features people don't want to try to boost their stock by showing increased use of AI.

  • When it comes to whether people will switch I think sentiment is more towards diy PC gamers who are used to putting together and upgrading their systems and doing a fresh install.

When it comes to the general consumer i expect them to have the tech literacy of boomers when it comes to a PC.

  • Work is one area I wouldn't care what OS is used. Since I don't consider anything there to be private and its not my hardware at the end of the day.
