  • People have been saying it'll be uneconomical to mine bitcoin at all for like a decade now. Like half a decade back a bunch of bitcoin miners sold off their gpus, but then they used the proceeds to just buy newer dedicated gpus when the price went back up.

Don't get me wrong, bitcoin should not be an industry, but this isn't really a new thing.

  • It's a nice gesture, but I wouldn't rely on China to oppose US imperialism. The only reliable deterrent is a nuke of your own.

  • Interesting notion. However we don't call our New Year tradition the "Italian New Year" even though both Caesar and Gregory were Italian. or the "Roman new year" or the "Papal new year". It's just the New Year. If you are celebrating it in the Chinese way sure you can call it Chinese New Year, however if you're doing it with Vietnamese tradition or Mongolian traditions, etc calling it Chinese would just be a bit odd. Hence Lunar New Year.

Edit: Technically it should be the Lunisolar New Year anyway, since the calendar is lunisolar not just lunar. Really the islamic calendar is the only calendar i can think of off the top of my dome that is actually lunar.

  • Women are sadly not exempt from misogynist ideas.

  • No planet has "Cleared its orbit" if you want to be strict about it. You have to exclude a bunch of stuff (Like the Trojans of various planets, and Pluto/The Plutinos from Neptune) and get into a lot of fiddly bits.

Now you could talk about Plutos ability to theoretically do so, which would be a matter of size, but then that should be the discriminant.

  • Kinky

  • Reminder that "Dwarf planet" is a nonsense category that has nothing to do with size but is based on location. A thing is a planet or a dwarf planet based entirely on where it's located not on how big it is. It is also not a concept used outside of our own solar system, which means the term exists entirely to demote Pluto.

  • is she back yet

  • Twitch streamer who just reads a book to the chat, they don't even show anything but the text.

  • She/Her

Well they at least got the gender right.

  • I had an idea for a work of fiction, a narrative of a "lab leak" type scenario told as a series of technical and government reports.Apparently that's just The Andromeda Strain, a novel written in the 60s by a guy who would go on to write ER, Twister and Jurassic Park.

  • I mean one of the people in the article has a yearly salary of 50000, which is ok but hardly "rich" by American standards.

  • From her roughly $50,000 annual salary as a data processor in San Diego, Ms. Reedy, 34, spends at least $200 to $300 a week on food delivery

Between raising two young boys and putting in long hours at a marketing job in Atlanta, Kevin Caldwell can almost never find the time to make dinner. So he and his husband spend about $700 a week to order in.

I don't know how rich they are, but this seems like an overspending thing more so than an issue of having too much money.

  • Hey you're leaving out the part where they force disabled people to come into an office to be called liars and malingerers to their face and then deny it if they get a complaint.

I genuinely don't get the people who take this kind of job, especially as IIRC they're supposed to be trained for real jobs like nursing.

  • Henneguya zschokkei literally don't use oxygen, they don't have the capacity to do aerobic metabolism at all, they don't have mitochondria and they're just little egg looking parasites.

    CW dead fish

  • Yeah you should feel despised, your job is to be a dick to disabled people.

  • A pig footed bandicoot is an animal with pig feet in the front and its back legs are more similar to horse legs than other bandicoot legs.

  • Reported for calling mods cool.

  • I know that haircut well, when your hair is really thick but also it's not long enough to get a haircut yet.

o7 to a fellow thick hair haver.
