  • Yeah, I’ve been guilty of coming up with “cute” solutions that are extremely optimized and concise, but you needed to take a hundred times as long to work through what was going on.

Usually I would put an explanation comment, but sometimes a less optimized solution is the better option for readability sake.

  • Honestly, you might want to look into proper server hardware. There are many out there that support dozens of drives, assuming you’re willing to go with a blade. Even if you explicitly want a tower, server hardware is where you’re going to get the best support.

You’ll most likely also want to increase the size of your drives. Assuming you’re being smart and utilizing RAID, you’re going to be losing a bunch of that storage.

  • I believe some custom firmware for TVs exist, the issue is that they are relatively new pieces of tech, while routers have existed for a comparatively long time.

  • So the answer to someone breaking a law or regulation is… more laws and regulations?

If someone is going to assault another human, they aren’t going to hit a “oh boy I better not lie to uber” roadblock…

  • Yeeeah, I was involved with a server that had to add a “no live births in voice chat” rule.

  • Lazy copy paste, no guarantee any of this is right because I’m on mobile:

  • The battery isn’t the issue they were talking about. They meant “so instead of batteries on the quad you’re powering it from the tank.”

  • This comment hurts my head.

  • I guarantee it boils down to “shoe size has a passing correlation to penis size”.

  • And yet I experience it so often. That or “effort points” as the metric being used to determine who all stars are.

Either as a metric just encourages gaming of the system:

    • Why write one line when I can write the same thing in 20?
    • Why take this one effort point task I think will take three when I can just skip it and grab these one effort points I think will take 20 minutes?

I’ve been on teams that on the surface didn’t have these metrics matter, but the top effort points achiever got bonuses on the DL.

  • Eh, this could easily be exploited though, could it not? Just register as a woman looking for a woman client/driver. Is there a verification process to prove you’re a woman?

  • I don’t get why they don’t just make this a global option. Anyone can choose their preferred gender. Some women prefer women, some prefer men. Hell, some men prefer men.

  • I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but dear god why.

  • The only alternative is to willingly leave over a hundred communities, some of which I have strong ties to, and never interact with the majority again.

    That’s a big ask.

  • Shouldn’t this be 1’s?

  • You can carry multiple wavelengths over a single strand.

  • So a country where you have to provide written notice of quitting, with a notice period of potentially months?

Yeah, a lot of companies will let you quit sooner, could even be in that contract for all we know, but you’ve signed a legal document. It’s not as simple as “just quit”.

  • It depends on the country and what’s in the contract. You could be very behind where you started in specific scenarios.

  • I’m fairly certain that war can’t stop elections in the US, from a constitutional standpoint.
