"Man rests from one labor by doing another." That also works for managing chronic pain, as I've discovered...

  • So did they wind up getting permitted in the country by Italian authorities? I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one...

  • As a Beatles fan, I was always kind of weirded-out by this one.

They had some pretty crazy art (for the time) associated with them, like the Yellow Submarine stuff, the Sgt. Pepper look, and even the unused 'butcher' album cover, but somehow this one bothered me a bit...

  • Amazing how many things the Simpsons got right, yet it didn't matter.

  • Whoa, that's nicely hypnotic.

Not a masterpiece in terms of drawing technique, but it all comes together as a whole...

  • Was gonna say... snow machines are fairly common at ski resorts and competitions, I think. It would be odd if they hadn't been used for various Olympics.

  • quietly and calmly.

Seriously. And we'd already had a huge taste of the chaos of the 1st Orange administration, and somehow decided... that life was too boring or something, without it.

But I know some people feel very strongly that he didn’t get anything of note done.

Those people are just ridiculous to me, and I apologise for kind of sideways lumping you in there. I think it's more accurate to say that Biden's was generally a strong admin, but with some terrible failures in terms of appointing Garland as AG and not doing enough to prosecute those who badly needed to be prosecuted. In short, not taking seriously-enough the existential threat of what wound up following.

  • He evidently did some pretty weird stuff behind the scenes, like being something of a fecal-philiac. I pretty much scrubbed the memory shortly after reading about that stuff, but let's just say that he had his own, unique way of shittily hazing rookies and so forth...

  • Picardo was great, and Tim Russ was good, but for me, that was one of the most charmless casts in all of the ST series. I don't know what's even close, really...

  • Dennis Miller

He always came off to me as a smarmy, sarcastic asshole, but I thought that was part of his game. Did he turn out to be far worse..?

  • Being all wrapped up with another person emotionally and romantically can sometimes push us to do things otherwise out of character. I think it's pretty easy to see and understand in that particular case.

  • Bill Gates

I remember him as being a scumbag going back to the 80's. Ripping off the Mac GUI, and then going on to bully, absorb and run out of business countless smaller enterprises through strong-arm legal / financial tactics.

  • I most often use GPT5.2 as an enhanced search engine. It's very good about understanding nuance in terms of the parameters I'm searching on (way, way better than Google, for example), and can pull together a sort of 'report' from many different sources.

  • I remember that era, and even did some skateboarding with the modern 'surfboard' style rigs. Almost two different sports, in a way.

  • ...there’s a lot of valid reasons to hate AI based on how it’s been implemented and how it’s fucking with markets regarding PC components.

I'm completely cool with that kind of dislike, plus the general annoyance with "AI slop," but the knee-jerk hatred for LLM's is where I draw the line.

In reality, they're sometimes a waste of time, and can indeed contribute to AI slop if used that way, but I've also found them to be hugely useful on various tasks, probably with something like a ~70% success rate on the issues I ask for help with. Whatever else, they're some robust tools, never seen before, and will only get better.

EDIT : haha, and let the haters hate... whatever they think they're hating. 🙃

  • Say what you want about the Biden Administration. It did since good things, and it did since bad things.

Even something like that, which seems reasonable on the surface, is itself highly skewed. Since there's no FV counterpart, you can go to r/WhatBidenHasDone and see a deeply impressive list of accomplishments. The body of presidential scholars rate him highly, equally impressively.

So where does the 'Biden was a so-so president' sentiment come from, anyway? I'm not entirely sure, but it seems to me the news media has some real explaining to do, just as they're not remotely going after the current admin nearly as much as they should.

Think about what an utter disaster this last election was-- the nation collectively giving up on what was a quality administration, in order to elect arguably the worst in history, with every bit of evidence pointing that way ahead of time.

  • Does the type of rice matter?

Yes; make sure it's whole grain. White rice is essentially junk food, with most of its fiber, vitamins & minerals stripped in the de-hulling process.

  • You're right, and I apologise for being weird, there.

Thank you bringing this issue / post. <3

  • Alright, I'm confused...

Isn't "salad" the very substrate of us weirdo Sapiens, across this ~300kyrs..?
