  • I have the nationalities wrong as well. In the book the pilot (Blackthorne) is british, sailing for the Dutch, in a clandestine mission against the Portuguese.

    What I noted about the languages in the show was correct though. English = Portuguese.

  • I'm old enough to have caught The Young Ones back when they aired in the US on MTV, before the music scenes got edited out due to licensing.

    Portuguese sailor English pilot sailing for the Dutch against the Portuguese. Only two languages are spoken in the story, Japanese and Portuguese. Whenever you hear someone speaking in English, they are speaking Portuguese in the story.

    • The Expanse
    • Star Trek: TNG
    • Fleabag (season 2 is a masterpiece, and I don't throw that word around)
    • For All Mankind
    • Archane (season 1 is another masterpiece)
    • Penny Dreadful (it dips in quality in the later seasons, but worth it for the Frankenstein's monster story alone)

    • Graphics manipulation, a la Photoshop - GIMP
    • Generative AI graphics - There is no ethical alternative
    • Printing (t-shirts, posters, etc) - There are many out there, but you will have to create your design in GIMP first.

  • What video game did you not expect to like as much as you did?

  • These three jump out at me. I went blind on all three.

    • Portal 2 - I genuinely had no idea what it was about when I started, and I certainly did not expect comedy.
    • Titanfall 2 - Bought it on release because I wanted a solo FPS game. Amazing. I wish I could experience it for the first time again.
    • Spiritfarer - I cried. A lot.

    It kinda looks like a bunch of countries used the noise from the headlines the American cuts generated to quietly cut funding too. Fucking shameful.

  • For a very long time, the US military has prided itself on performing surgical strikes with the least amount of civilian casualties and collateral damage as possible. Israel prides itself in their capacity to inflict maximum pain and destruction.

    Allowing Israel to lead and dictate our military operations (as stated by Trump and US officials) in any way, is leaving us soaked in blood and with a stain that won't clean off for a very long time.

  • Dbzer0 has always been very explicit about being tech forward and pro-AI. It's the main reason I did not migrate there. This should not come as a surprise.

    Being anti-AI, or any other tech, in dbzer0 is like trying to start a TERF comm in blajah. Wrong place.

  • Gen-X here. Most of us grew up on absolute trash weed. Modern weed is incredibly clean and strong. Vapes are a distillation of that. When it's all said and done, taking deep hits of a THC vape after only having a few puffs at a Pearl Jam concert back in 1994, might lead to regrettable consequences.

  • I'm going to play a little devil's advocate, not about the "if they should" but more about how they end up looking unrecognizable.

    I used to be very athletic. Then I got very heavy. Then I went back to athletic, but when I did so I ended up with the Mitch McConnell turkey neck. It was fugly, I'm not going to lie, and it bothered me. I'm also opposed to plastic surgery so I figured that's the way it was going to be. Then I got cancer in my neck. After they cut out the tumor and all other affected tissue, they had to do a bit of reconstruction. Out went the cancer along with the turkey neck and my jaw line is looking like a million bucks. I'm hot again baby!

    And that's the problem. I can see somebody having a positive first experience with reconstructive surgery and assuming that more of it will make it more better. You feel better about yourself and suddenly believe that you can feel better still. You'd be wrong, but I get why you would think that.
