  • Season 5 actually starts off better than I expected but peaks at around the third episode and gets increasingly Marvel and cringe from there. The characters also have to constantly explain the plot to the audience in these recurring "plan" scenes because until now the show has done such a poor job of explaining why any of the supernatural and superpower stuff actually exists. The writers backed themselves into a corner where the only way out is to infodump in every single episode of the final season.

As has been the case with previous seasons, the main reason to watch is for the individual characters who generally remain quite likeable. In particular, Will finally gets a big role in this season and not just the usual weak, tormented boy thing he's been stuck with until now. He's finally an active participant in the story, making decisions and influencing others instead of just constantly needing to be saved/protected.

  • Admittedly I haven't watched the final episode yet so maybe it is the worst thing ever made for TV, but beyond the first season the show has always been pretty poorly written and cringe. Season 5 has lived up to expectations and reputation in that sense, I'm not really sure why people are getting this invested in it.

  • It was a big chunk of their lives and the media scrutiny was intense. I'm sure they don't regret it and have lots of great memories but you'd probably be enjoying the relative freedom afterwards.

  • i'm pointing out that the "it's popular = it must be good" argument is obviously ridiculous

No one made that argument, though. The person you replied to literally said you can debate the merits of the show.

  • "So... both the leads of Twilight kind of just became known for really quirky low budget films they took because they are already set for life monetarily?"

I've really enjoyed following the careers of those two. Stewart in particular is very underrated. She has a very laid back, "natural" style which didn't gel well.with big budget cringe like Twilight but comes off as very realistic and convincing in smaller indie dramas.

  • This was the last Star Wars thing I watched and was the final straw for me. Made a resolution then and there to never watch this shit ever again, no matter how many times people say "it's actually really good though" about the latest Disney Star Wars thing (exactly what they said about the Obi-Wan show).

  • Inside Man (2022) was probably the worst thing I've attempted to watch. I bailed in the first episode, it was absolutely dreadful. The decisions being made by the characters were so far from realistic/believable that it made the drama feel completely contrived and tedious.

  • Yes, it's one of the most stable alternatives in my experience.

  • I was going to say this didn't need another season, but after reading the synopsis it seems like it's now an anthology series. With Song Kang-ho joining the cast I'll definitely check it out!

  • Sold or broken?

  • I'm a little surprised by this. I suppose there must be a market but I'm certainly not aware of it. The only people I have ever seen using this type of folding phone are YouTubers.

  • I will never understand those of you who feel the need to virtue signal about your piracy.

  • I like some of the features of this phone and in some ways it is similar to the iKKO Mind One I backed, but I've always found this idea of "companion" phones very weird. There have been a few over the years and they're always just ginped and overpriced. You pay a relatively large amount of money for a convoluted solution to a problem that is very niche in the first place.

  • In August 2025, Google announced that starting next year, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google.

This is what the thread is about. No one is talking about privacy, that's a completely different discussion.

  • I don't understand why you hope/advocate for Google to get a short-term win here if you don't also expect a short-term solution. You're wishing for a world where we all get fucked over and then have to sit around waiting for the wheels of bureaucracy to slowly turn instead of a world where we never get fucked over to begin with. Very strange priorities.

  • OP explained it well. The problem for us is that these companies chase infinite growth and to get that they need to look at what the people who aren't already their customers are doing. If those people are off watching short-form AI slop it can potentially send the wrong messages.

It has been rumoured for years now that Netflix (and others) are intentionally dumbing down their scripts for people with zero attention span who watch things in the background and/or while they're using their phone. Characters will repeatedly explain the plot at regular intervals so that the goldfish don't lose interest and unsubscribe. As of 2025, Netflix has also begun airing new shows with AI generated content in them (in this case it replaced manual VFX work) and wants to explore the use of generative AI further.

You're right that there's no immediate connection and we're not suddenly going to be deluged with AI slop on paid streaming platforms, but it's potentially a bigger problem if we look at the longer term direction society is headed.

  • the death of Rachael Lee Dixon, who ingested magic mushrooms at a wellness retreat last year.

    Nine Perfect Strangers?

  • The disparity between IMDB ratings and reviews is quite interesting. It's averaging 8.2 after nearly 69,000 ratings, so you'd think the reviews would be overwhelmingly positive, but it's actually very mixed. Sorting them by review date reveals that a lot of people rated it 10/10 based on the first episode, while a lot of the negative reviews came later from people who became annoyed by the pacing. I haven't watched it myself, just thought it was interesting how controversial the show seems to be.
