  • Lawsuit waiting to happen.

PSA for admins and mods: GDPR fines can go up to 20 million euros per case. To give you an idea, Meta has been fined over 2.5 billion euros in recent years. If you think that's bad, the real worry is Germany's NetzDG.

  • People will put on some shorts, a tanktop and some flip-flops, get on their bike, and ride similar speeds to that of someone on a motorbike wearing full safety gear. All while surrounded by vehicles which weigh tonnes and with the most likely surface their head will hit being the curb or some concrete. It's stupid.

I mean, seriously. Hit your self in the head with a brick or an iron bar. You're likely to hurt yourself badly even if you do it lightly, let alone full force.

  • Yep. Very common.

A lot of people use their pc like a console or media server. Ie. use it to watch/play stuff from their bed or couch.

  • I dunno man. I just replaced as much as possible with lavender, rosemary and heather. (Check which works for your climate).

That way the bees get something to eat, and your garden smells nice.

  • It's a relatively nuanced take, even if I don't agree with everything he says.

Of course, if you've become radicalised, you might think he's a Zionist shill or making excuses for Hamas.

  • A freeze response is a perfectly common reaction to something like this. Happens regularly in car accidents. People panic, freeze, drive straight into a tree. It's not unlikely that you would react in the same way.

If anything you're the one with the IQ of a cucumber to think otherwise.

  • It's absurd. Biden's position is shit, but at least he's slightly critical of Netenyahu. Trump is quite clearly worse than Biden.

I mean, Trump's position on West Bank settlements is that they're perfectly legal. That what amounts ethnic cleansing in the West Bank is perfectly legal. Biden reversed that, restoring the longstanding policy that it is in fact illegal for Israeli settlers to (violently) chase Palestinians off their land.

I honestly wonder if these people actually give a shit about the Palestinians, or want them to become martyrs for the cause because it's more politically expedient. If deep down they wouldn't rather the Israelis kill as many Palestinians as possible, because they think it'll help them 'win the argument'.

    Disgusting.

  • The Russians regularly and egregiously violated Swedish airspace, they accused Sweden of producing the Novichok used in the assassination attempt on the Skripals, threatened Sweden with serious consequences (including nuclear threats) if they considered joining NATO, and basically treated them like cunts.

Wonder how NATO forced them to join. /s

Better out than in, if that's how Russia treats non-NATO members.

  • I've also had that experience, but it really depends on how well it's been narrated.

For example, Stephen Fry's version of Harry Potter (yes, I know, but it's really well read) it's immediately obvious who says what and he's well spoken. Unsurprising as he's also a good actor and that does matter.

Some audiobooks the narrator rambles, doesn't enunciate clearly, and doesn't make it obvious who said what.

  • I have dyslexia, ADHD (focus issues) and my eyes physically shake leading to me skipping over entire paragraphs unless there’s enough white space between the lines

I read A LOT. I have a couple of degrees.

Ignore snobbery. Listening to an audiobook is just as valid a way of enjoying a book as reading it. I suggest starting with something you think you might actually enjoy, maybe a genuine classic, not this overly long blogpost.

Listen to a chapter before you go to sleep. If people are snobs about audiobooks, don't mention you listened to it, just say you read it.

I recommend looking on the BBC sounds app/website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/

    It's free.

  • That's not really a choice you can make. Also idiots don't know they're idiots.

  • Rice absorbs moisture. The moisture might make it more conductive.

  • It's been said before, but if I were a Palestinian (or an Israeli) I'd also be angry at Israeli politicians like Netenyahu for helping prop up Hamas, in order to divide the Palestinian cause and undermine the PLO.

  • Seems unlikely, given he's simply paraphrasing what Joe Biden said last week and Starmer is now calling for an immediate cease fire. He's a front bencher, this is likely an agreed upon statement.

    I dislike wayland

  • I sounds like you don't actually dislike wayland, but fanboys and toxicity. TBH the linux community is full of that kind of crap.

Imagine if we were all as weird about toasters, having arguments about how toaster brand X was so much better than toaster brand Y.

But luckily people don't give much of a shit about toasters, as long as they work.

  • Unfortunately IME it's a no go if you're using banking or government/authenticator apps. (Your mileage may vary and this may change.)

Not how it should be, but how it is.

  • When I bought my phone a few years ago, motorola offered one with relatively stock android, no forced install of facebook or whatever, several years of (timely) android updates, and a large battery. A few years down the line, I'm still getting updates and the battery still lasts days.

And it was plastic and came with a cover, so it's survived the occasional fall just fine.

Honestly don't get why you'd spend more on something that can so easily be stolen.
