  • On the flip side, while I might be somewhat dismissive of people who are 18 and think their opinions will never change, I tend to go with, "You might change your mind someday," but am also pretty uninvested in whether some acquaintance or even good friend decides to make a choice that is going to have almost no direct impact on me. I have also been part of more than one conversation on Lemmy where peoplenhave used the term breeder, and I've never seen that used in a positive way.

  • My parents were from families of 8 and 7, all but one of those 14 couples had at least 1 kid and only 2 had less than three. Do my anecdotes cancel out your anecdote?

  • The staunchly atheist government of the USSR killed off tens of millions of people, too.

  • rofl @ feral

That adds a little extra to the comment.

  • I saw a marketing blurb for the 2026 Nissan Leaf. They are also going with flush handles (hopefully a safer design) and claimed it for reduced drag to increase range. But, market, so could be just short of an outright lie.

  • Not if we aren't American.

  • While that is the ideal, it hasn't been true in practice for a couple decades, at least. Due process was negated by basically saying an incantation during arrest due to the PATRIOT Act ("this crime was an act of terrorism"). Edward Snowden sacrificed his freedom to make everyone aware that the Fourth Amendment was being ignored by the NSA for pretty much anyone who knew someone who wasn't an American, and they later got rid of even that pretense. Now it's the First Amendment which has had an asterisk added, noting Americans only, and people still have the audacity to act surprised.

  • Yeah, it's crazy how when you barely fund research no progress is made and when you fund it it is.

  • I would have guessed her to be older than him, but at least part of that is the benefits of wealth on your physical health that she, as a regular person, wouldn't have had. Not that her being older than him is a big deal to me, anyway. Keanu has been through some shit and deserves some happiness in his life. I hope that includes her.

  • And to think, if you couldn't have been as positive as OP, you could have just said nothing.

  • I may have to start doing this. I've subscribed to enough that I see enough to keep me occupied, and if I don't I go to All and add anything that I find particularly interesting. This mean I miss new things I might really enjoy unless I'm not as occupied with my current subscription list. This could be better.

  • But it's always concerning when foreign material crosses the blood-brain barrier. It may not be a problem, but as far as I've seen, it wasn't even a consideration a decade ago.

  • Canada has plants of companies that make EVs. I don't think any EV-specific parts are made in Canada, but a decline in American car manufacturing will have an impact on those plants. I don't believe those negative impacts are nearly as big a deal as the tariffs and trade war with America are, and if they meet the safety standards we have here (which I'm sure they do), that's also good. If one of the requirements was removing privacy-invading features to sell in Canada because China is scary, and it was passed as a law for all auto makers, I'd be even happier.

  • Ah, okay. I saw some earlier speculation that RFK Jr. didn't actually say this and thought yours was in the same vein. Crazy videos of people saying things we wouldn't believe 10 years ago seems to be the norm these days...

  • Well, I do think the first step would be calling out their bad behavior. Maybe they don't think what they're saying is so bad, or maybe they think their peers are okay with it. On that point, I don't think financially supporting them will indicate we don't approve of their statements or behavior.

  • I would be equally unsurprised if RFK Jr. also said it, though.

  • I'd far rather have a dumb TV/monitor and a cheap, easily upgradable smart device connected to it, but I'm on Lemmy so that shouldn't come as a surprise.

  • Some Canadians are bothered (I'm indifferent), but i think it's more on a moral level rather than from a personal or immediate impact.
