  • The time to be concerned about the direction of the political system was November of 2024.

It's quite literally too late to do anything about it now. If Trump wants to cancel elections, there will be much hand-wringing and finger-waggling while congress debates about the legality of such a thing in a committee to no avail and the courts slow-walk any kind of injunction that would preemptively prevent them from doing it before it actually mattered.

Why should any of us be surprised that the guy who tried to subvert democracy once before is brazenly and openly stating his desire to do so again? This result was so utterly predictable that I feel secondhand embarrassment for anybody just now getting anxious about the political system.

  • Lmao, the MAGAs lose to the ultimate buzz killer, the NIMBYs!

  • Play the Bongcloud against a chess hustler in Central Park. Winning optional.

  • I've been saying for a few weeks now that Minnesotans need to form a citizens militia of some sort. Neighbors protecting neighbors from the fascist paramilitary thugs roaming the streets and conducting warrantless searches and illegal detentions.

This is a big step in the right direction.

You don't have to march out into the streets and have a shootout with ICE to send a very clear and intimidating message - real American patriots look out for their friends and neighbors, and Trump's thugs are not welcome anywhere and should watch their backs constantly and sleep with one eye open.

  • "What if instead of the communist atheist deep state vax jab, we just expose people to a weakened version of the coronavirus? 🤔"

  • According to the bootlicking chodes I've argued with recently, just existing anywhere near ICE performing their kidnapping operations is obstruction.

Apparently getting shot in the back 10 times is excusable if you were somehow preventing ICE from disappearing people by standing on a public sidewalk. It's total psychopath abuser mentality.

  • And then you have to do the dishes too, of which you would need multiple if you are adding in all the same ingredients as taco bell menu items and getting it done in 10 minutes.

  • M1 Garand ping

  • I hate him.

My dream is to be a homeowner and it's slipping away faster than I can chase after it.

I fucking hate him so much.

  • It's okay though because Zuck greased the Trump admin's palms with his Presidential Library bribe, so they'll get a slap on the wrist at best.

  • Literally anything but FOSS, huh?

Out of the frying pan and into a cold frying pan.

  • To basically anywhere that will take them.

If we're taking consideration of the lessons we learned from history, when Nazi Germany ran out of other countries to send their undesirables, the death camps were constructed.

So... what happens when other countries get tired of accepting thousands of U.S. deportees?

  • I actually kind of like a slight amount of friction to signing up. Making a lemmy account takes almost no technical effort. Being able to understand what an instance is and which one is suitable for an individual user can be easily demystified with a cursory Google search, or even asking a shitty AI chatbot.

The only excuse is that it's harder to do that than it is to make an account on reddit or tiktok or whatever.

A big part of what made web 1.0 special, imo, is that everyone had a baseline technical competency in order to access the web and understand what they needed to do to visit certain websites. It wasn't an extreme barrier, and someone who was determined could parse out the steps required with no formal instructions whatsoever. But the app economy ruined all of that and made everything ultra-accessible. Social media just preyed on that lazy mindset to keep users engaged with their algorithms forever.

  • There were people in 2024 saying that the shit happening at this very moment would never happen under Trump 2.0.

These abhorrent acts have been so normalized over the last year that the unthinkable has become blase.

I shudder to think of where we are going to be in another year.

  • Okay, I deleted my comment not just because I didn't want people to upvote the misinformation, but also because I knew if I started typing out an edit or a reply that I would get upset and say more than I should. But since you're now twisting the knife, I'll oblige, since it's entirely unavoidable at this point.

First, you are absolutely correct about the lyrics. I made a mistake. Happy?

Second, do not presume to know anything about me:

Not sure if you actually know too many queer people who were 90s kids

Well, I know me, for one. Now I know you too.

you seem to think is only ever a slur.

Did I say that? I self-censored not because I believe that the word should be unspeakable, but because I don't want to be banned from Lemmy for typing it out. It's explicitly against the rules of /c/politics.

To be clear, I don't really care if people use it, as an insult or otherwise - that's their business and not mine. But platforms most certainly do. To add on to that, my preferences are not shared by all. I know it makes some people uncomfortable to read it, which is why I try to avoid it when I can. We've all definitely matured past the people that we were in the 90's. I'm not going to regress just for contextual purposes.

  • So the administration has quadrupled down on saying they are only going after thugs and criminals and narco terrorists and then they snatch little kids off the street? Because they can't prove they are a citizen? There isn't a single person on that ICE squad that can confidently tell me that they carried their identification on them at all times as a kid.

Republicans, what the fuck is wrong with you? Wake the fuck up and help us stop this insanity.

  • If those very standard topics are verboten during the job interview, imagine what it will be like if you were subordinate to those people.

  • That pussy name brand tho...
