  • The Republican party needs to have plausible deniability. In the conservative playbook, it’s okay to repeat things that they know for a fact are untrue, or to tell a lie of omission to further their agenda, because they can always walk it back at the point in time which they are receiving blowback by saying they didn’t know it wasn’t true or that they didn’t have all the facts at hand. Assuming that the lie doesn’t manifest itself into truth or that there are enough people who care enough about the real truth to bother fact checking it at all to the point where it would necessarily generate any kind of controversy.

This was Vance saying the quiet part out loud, probably by accident, and his pivot was not convincing at all.

  • I really don’t want Trump to get shot and killed.

I really really want Trump to live the rest of his life in constant fear and paranoia, never able to enjoy the things that he loves, isolated from the world and starving for the adulation of the people who will quickly forget him in the prison of his own making as he taps away at his phone on his own little social media bubble, grasping at being relevant again until the day he dies of natural causes and the nation lets out a wet fart of false sympathy and lowers the flags to half staff for the day while the news media puffs him up one last time before they, too, stop giving a shit and we close this chapter of our lives and our nation.

That requires Harris to beat Trump in November, so I need the fucker to stay alive until then.

  • 100% this right here. The owner-class have been deluding themselves for damn near 100 years at this point that we’re not working long enough or hard enough. Henry Ford figured out exactly how much work he could squeeze out of an assembly line peon, set the requirement at exactly that point, and structured the entire operation around that 8 hours a day, five days per week quotient.

The modern CEO runs on feelings of “Well I work 12 hours per day 7 days per week, so it’s not much to ask that my rank-and-file workers put in an extra hour or two per day for the sake of the company!” while discounting or ignoring the fact that there’s a compensation gap of approximately 100x or more. Not everybody is CEO-brained enough to pull a 12 hour day every day and still have energy left over to perform basic functions in what little free time they have remaining that isn’t dedicated to sleeping.

In reality, we need to be organizing to force companies to start paying us what they owe, and if they don’t want to match our salaries with the astronomical increase in production that has taken place over the years thanks to computerization and automation, then they need to let us have more time off from work without a reduction in pay. It’s only fair.

  • So when Dick Cheney shows up to say Kamala’s right and trump is bad…

I expect Kamala to tell Cheney to fuck off at minimum

I wonder if Dems always choke in Presidential races because they have people like you as their chief strategists, where vague concepts of noble virtue and ideological purity supersede pragmatism at the most crucial moment.

I can’t possibly imagine being so privileged that I could get an endorsement from a former Republican VP during an incredibly close race and my response to him would be “fuck off”.

  • I hate the NPC Wojack meme with an intense passion. It’s such a strawman trap. All it does is reduce the opposition to unthinking robots so they can attacked on their credibility rather than the merits of their actual arguments.

In this case, the media isn’t saying Dick Cheney is a good guy now because he endorsed Harris. They’re saying it’s a surprising stance to take for the former VP of a Republican administration. It would be like having Al Gore come out and endorse Trump for President.

OP is 100% full of shit and more like an NPC than any of these media outlets.

  • We should’ve held a goddamn primary. If the Democrats were so convinced that the incumbency effect was worth skipping on a primary, they should’ve put it to the test and asked the American voters if they thought Biden was still the best guy for the job. Not a choice between Biden and Trump, but a choice between Biden and a number of other qualified candidates.

If we’re being honest, pre-debate I would have still chosen Biden. I still think he’s capable of doing the job of President despite the poor showing, because I know that’s not Biden 100% of the time, that’s him 1% of the time when not on top of his game.

Couldn’t be happier with the Harris replacement, though. It brought the energy we were sorely lacking. I’m just crossing my fingers and praying that people show up in November. Please, god, don’t let that fucking crook back in.

  • The one thing that just about anybody inside or outside the U.S. can agree on is that we have the best national parks, and the most unspoiled natural beauty across entire swathes of land. This doesn’t happen by accident. A love of nature transcends political affiliations. If anything I would say despite the social stigma of Democrats being “tree-huggers”, it’s actually conservatives and Republicans who have a vested interest in preserving and maintaining national parks and nature conservatories. Hunting and fishing in particular are big pass times in red states, so it makes sense that Republicans care deeply about the environment.

Climate change denialism only takes root in conservative circles because it’s abstract enough to not be directly observable and is at direct odds with things like fossil fuels production that are major economic drivers in predominantly Republican controlled states. Although I think conservatives are finally waking up to that fact and are refusing to be spoon fed bullshit anymore. Hopefully not too late to reverse course.

  • Mine is Magic: The Gathering, except I fully realize that I am pulling away from it and why.

The game sparked an immense amount of joy when I picked it up in high school. Now I barely recognize the game anymore. It doesn’t truly have an identity of its own and exists in this permanent state of limbo where 3rd party IPs are taking over the demand for new product and the rules are becoming so bloated that they can’t fit them on cards anymore.

This is such an “old man yelling at clouds” moment for me, because I heard just about every reason under the sun for why people quit the game when I was playing from power creep to changing art styles to just getting priced out of the hobby in general. I realize now that those people were not wrong, they were just not the target audience anymore. I am no longer a profitable demographic to pander to. I never buy packs anymore, and I’ve even stopped buying singles and I don’t attend tournaments or collect anymore, so why would Hasbro/WotC make products for me? Especially when there are deep pocketed whales out there who will pay top dollar for their favorite crossover set, no matter how silly or out of place it might seem.

I wish I could enjoy the game the way I used to, but I just can’t be bothered to hop back in when it doesn’t feel the same anymore.

  • If his team were actually smart they’d realize that lightning won’t strike twice and keep Trump’s mouth shut and keep him far away from the debate stage. Kamala will rip him apart in September, no doubt in my mind.

The only reason he didn’t get a ton of criticism for his insanity at the last debate is because Biden was somehow worse and distracted everybody from Trump’s failing mental health and complete lack of a plan of action to fix the problems he rants and raves about all day and night.
