1·17 hours agosarcasm and you’re implying people do choose when they’re born?
What a weird thing to say.
You know, this new wave of age based bigotry does come with a silver lining. You see, an old school race based bigot can go their whole lives hating on [insert constructed racial group]. They can, on their death bed, look out the window and find someone to hate on. It’s a life-long obsession. But you age based bigots are going to wake up one day in a world without booomers. Then what will you do with all your irrational hate?

1·2 days agoSorry, how is your post different from someone claiming [insert racial group] is prone to greed and you’re simply trying to criticize greed? It’s basically a Mad Libs of that old fashioned bigotry.
Also, I’m confused by your first paragraph there. It’s such a weird thing to acknowledge that birth year is a fixed/ascribed trait then immediately launch into a prejudicial rant based on said ascribed trait. Even weirder to pause mid rant to claim you aren’t a bigot for inexorably linking an ascribed trait to a achieved (greed) state, which is basically the literal definition of bigotry. Or, is “That’s exactly the same thing” sarcasm and you’re implying people do choose when they’re born? Very confusing.

politics @lemmy.world•Report: ICE surges have triggered massive job losses - including among AmericansEnglish
6·2 days agoThe way that number is derived is hilariously old fashioned and error prone. They don’t change it so they can plausibly put out month after month big job gains then quietly adjust it down later. Trump has been doing this the whole time with neutral to amazing job reports in most of the past 18 months yet, somehow, over those 18 months job gains are near zero.
It’s also worth noting that the official unemployment rate has been unbelievably stable. As in, no one should believe it. Workforce participation has dropped from 62.5% to 61.8% during Trump2 telling us unemployment has gone up, but they’re massaging one number to make another look good.

politics @lemmy.world•Republicans Blame End of Crucial Program DOGE Cut on Biden | Screwworms are back thanks to Elon Musk and Donald Trump—and beef may get a lot more expensive.English
5·3 days agoI guess I’ll just keep reposting this until journalism catches up: The screwworm coverage so far is terrible.
First off, everyone is acting like this is a problem for beef prices (end of list). No, this is a problem for any mammal living in the southern US. FFS, some of the cases already are dogs- how are people not putting this together?
Second, Biden did whiff on the screwworm response in Central America. They should have pulled a Gandalf as screwworms spread north, but instead were modern Democrats and assumed the situation would fix itself until it was really bad.
Third, the real blame lies with whoever was POTUS before Biden (I can’t recall) for ignoring that the Panama facility holding the Darien Gap needed updates, more funding. We’re talking tens of millions of dollars to fix in 2018 what will now be a billions and billions problem. Trump- oh right it was Trump. Yeah, then when Covid hit they lost the Gap. To come back in 2025 and cut funding to to the program, pull out of partnerships with nations dealing with screwworms, and re-open the border to animal disease vectors is insanity. Are we sure these people aren’t literal demons feeding on human misery?
That was always the plan, Make America Greatdepression Again.

5·3 days agoPBS and PBS Kids programming has been separated for while now. Overall a great thing, as you can cut the children loose on PBS Kids. That said, HBO bought Sesame Street for a while and show licensing got a bit confusing for anything in the Sesame Workshop like 3-2-1 Contact.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump claims he tanked economy on purpose: 'I love the inflation'English
33·3 days ago“No, I love it – the numbers were great,” Trump said. “You know what I really love? I love the inflation. You know why? Because as soon as this war is over, you know, I can say it now, something you didn’t know. You know, we’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil, nobody knows it. You know who doesn’t know about it? Iran, until right now we took out the other night 22 ships late at night with no lights because they don’t have any radar because we blasted the crap out of it. We took out, that’s why oil is $85 a barrel.”
This is an all-time Trump quote. A masterclass in narcissistic dementia rambling. Someone put it on a pillow.

43·3 days agoYes, PBS/PBS Kids are absolute gems that make the world a better place.

In Kasparov’s eventual defense, he did say this after losing to Polgar:
“I was wrong about women playing chess. I gave an opinion a long time ago that I no longer believe.”
and later in his book wrote:
‘I won’t hide from the fact that I did make regrettably sexist remarks about women in chess around this time. In that 1989 Playboy interview I said men were better at chess because “women are weaker fighters” and that “probably the answer is in the genes”. The possibility of gender brain differences aside, I find it almost hard to believe I said this considering that my mother is the toughest fighter I know.’
