I don't read DMs.

  • Banana pants for scale.

I think there are valuable, narrow use cases for AI as it currently is. It should not be released into the wild willy-nilly in some scheme by greedy, irresponsible billionaires to profit from. It should be strictly regulated and controlled, perhaps allowed only to researchers who are trained to use it responsibly. I imagine it would be useful for suggesting novel solutions to problems that people would eventually come up with on their own, but LLMs would present many more now for consideration. It could act as a hallucinating muse for people who understand its limitations and know the application well enough to know what to reject out of hand as wrong and irresponsible.

  • The original meme says "technically", it's talking about numbers, that's it. Your bias toward the embarrassed millionaire trope led you to miss the point.

  • Tourists should stay away. I hope tourism continues to decline this year, and drops to zero.

  • It's a buffet, I sample almost everything.

No one likes everything at a buffet.

  • As did Epstein.

  • The owl had its reasons, and I'm sure they were good ones.

  • I'm on Linux because I hate Windows and Microslop, not because I love Linux.

While I'm guilty of sometimes stopping at the Google summary, which I see in Startpage searches, I usually do click through because the summary often doesn't show what I want to know. Usually what I want to know isn't the primary information, but something more obscure, or some possible connection.

  • Fortunately, you can pronounce it as it's spelled and to anyone who takes exception, you can point to how it's spelled as defense.

Which is why, though foyer in French is pronounced "foi-ay", when any English speaker pronounces it as "foy-er" I won't mention it. And, of course, unless you're a native French speaker (and probably even if you are), many French will correct your pronunciation of any word, so don't even try to speak French to a French person. Just Speak German, instead. Also, for some reason, it doesn't matter if a French person butchers English, it only matters, and very much so, if an English speaker butchers French. I adore French people BTW.

  • To be fair, the design isn't ideal.

  • Why doesn't the article name the Chinese supplier of the culprit oil?

  • Oops, I dic it again!

  • If the U.S. pulls out of NATO, losing Greenland will be the least of Europe's worries.

It will become obvious at least two weeks before it happens, since we'd need to move aircraft carriers, etc. there. Also, they'd be fools to resist.

No, I'm not supporting this at all, I'm just stating facts.

  • We're just the "consumers" line on their spreadsheet. We're a commodity to them to be exploited for their personal gain, just like everything else on the planet.

The only consideration they give us is that we might get pissed off enough someday to divide their head from their shoulders, the way they've worked for 60+ years to divide us against ourselves.

  • Even if you've never heard of this twat, this tells you everything you need to know about it.

  • Win10 -> Linux Mint, with a short stopover in Ubuntu.

First I ran it dual boot. When I decided to dump Windows completely, I made one big mistake. I didn't understand how Linux designates drives very well, and I ended up formatting one of my drives I didn't mean to.

I don't feel like Mint is lacking, so I haven't bothered checking out other distros. I just wanted something that works, and Mint works fine for me.

The only Windows feature I miss is the big preview in file explorer.

I highly recommend Learn Linux TV on YouTube.

  • I expect that doctors agree. Unfortunately, in the U.S. at least, doctors are not in charge of these decisions. Money is. And, money is convinced this will get them more money, so AI is being forced down their throats. Just like everywhere else.

Money is greedy, money is fast, but money isn't smart. We just remember the shit that worked, and forget all the failures along the way.

  • They're going to lose their shirts over this shit.

They're trying to force their utopian vision of robot and human slaves serving the "elite", but they need the slave's help to get there. Probably, that time will come, but not in their lifetime, and that's what's pissing them off. It's all about them--their selfish, psychopathic desires, humanity be damned. It's also why they're trying to develop immortality drugs--they see the dream of all past capitalist overlords as finally, possibly in their grasp, but they can't quite get it. They're like frustrated monkeys reaching through the cage bars and fighting each other.

  • I've never so much as touched a gun and I know all of this. I suppose I've just absorbed it through constant contact in my peripheral. Recent movies are getting trigger discipline better, but TV shows still get it wrong.

  • Yeah, they blew that one. But, I suspect it's because they associate "fast food" with KFC, over McDonald's. Although, I think McD's is nearly as well known, if not as well liked there?
