  • But that's precisely why you start out with actions that put your movement in the spotlight, like going on protests or similar forms of agitation.

Not going to the store for a day is hardly going to make anyone care (as it's literally based on absence rather than presence), especially the shops who this type of boycott is supposed to harm. People still need food, basic necessities and tools and can't live without them, so this would result in people buying more some other day to compensate.

  • But what's the objective here? Not buying stuff and boycotting for one day usually means you'll buy more in preparation before the boycott, or buy more after the boycott to make up for the deficit.

  • My european mind can't comprehend making tea without an electric kettle, something that is very rarely used in the US

  • It's all fun and games until your own body forgets to eat

  • Replace with something else - back when I was actually addicted to soda, I realized how expensive it all was and replaced it with drinking tea.

Of course, might not be viable if you're an american.

  • There are some setups that allow you to do this.

    • nixOS or nix + home-manager on some other distro, but it's a high skill-floor way to manage a computer so wouldn't recommend
    • window manager heavy setup where you just set it up then copy over the config files to the new install, a bit of a pain to first customize but viable if you're willing to ditch mouse-heavy desktop experience in favor for keyboard and shortcut focus to control everything.

Apart from those two cases, not really.

  • That's how you know they'll never get elected

  • I had issues with keeping a stable sleep schedule for years, but now I found a method that works for me: every day, set your alarm clock to the same time no matter what (in your case 5 AM) even on weekends. Then, try going to sleep so you always get full 8 hours, if you fuck up and go to sleep too late then tough shit - you'll feel tired tomorrow which will serve as a punishment that your brain will hopefully recognize.

They key is to be consistent and not sleep in.

  • As sad as this is gonna sound, I don't think it's time for change, at least not yet. It's only been 15 days, there are no organized country-wide movements with a clear game plan on how to liberate the country, a lot of people still don't truly grasp the severity of what's happening or just straight up cheering, and there are still a lot of questions related to these things hanging in the air.

If there was somehow an alternate reality where all of the people who oppose Trump magically got unified and organized, how many of them would stay safely at home watching from the sidelines instead of taking up arms and risking it all to topple an oppressive regime? If the regime gets toppled, what happens afterwards? Do Democrats (who are also being infiltrated by the Oligarchs) get put back into power again who would likely not have a mindset change? Maybe Liberal Democracies just aren't strong enough to prevent this and, if so, what's the alternative? How would it work and how would it be achieved?

The only things that realistically can be done for now are protests to spread awareness/oppose the regime, helping those who need it the most (the ones being persecuted like trans and immigrants), and just biting the time, thinking about solutions and hoping that more people are going to get the wake up call, be it from living conditions becoming worse. getting influenced by protests or just seeing the horror that current US administration is doing.

As the other commenter puts it, the post is just preaching to the choir so I figured I'd leave another perspective here, even if people here disagree I hope it at least inspires some thought. If it's considered gatekeeping or too negative, feel free to remove.

  • It's just a sad state of affairs. Digital video games are 1's and 0's that you can copy for basically free (with the only cost being hard drive space which is dirt cheap), so preservation shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, we live in a world where logic sometimes has to take the backseat in order to maintain the current ideology, and video game preservation is one of those sacrifices.

  • A somewhat political fact, but one that made some of my friends dumbfounded:

When a bank issues a loan, it generates that money literally out of thin air and credits that money to the loan account rather than using deposits they already had. For example, if you want to borrow $100,000, the banker approves the loan and doesn't hand over cash or move existing money around - instead, they just go on their system and credit your account with the sum, that's it.

  • I'll get a bit conspiratorial here, but if what Bernie has said is to be trusted in his video about oligarchy, up on his youtube channel, then Democrats are largely owned/influenced by billionaires who would benefit from the increased Trump support. It would make sense to do this, but yeah it could also just be a blunder, given how Trump was the first one to propose the ban and Democrats could take it as "hey if we do this, we'll win the moderate right support again!!", though who knows.

  • I personally use bottles installed through flatpak for non-steam game needs. Especially if you're pirating, you can use flatseal to disable things like internet access for bottles (and games that you run through bottles) and inter-process communication, making it just a bit safer if you have trust issues.

Setting bottles up is a bit of a pain, but once you do that you can pretty much run anything through it easily

  • Wdym narcissistic? He's one of the top Diablo and Path of Exile players, he has every right to look highly at himself

  • Does this mean Musk and AfD are now communists too?

  • i mean, technically every word is made up

  • Lefty memes suck because there's not enough obscenities in them, which is an effective comedy and bonding device. Conservatives on the other hand are doing the opposite - posting the most crude, racist, xenophobic, transphobic memes that are short and to the point, no need for paragraphs, or in some cases, words.

It was the opposite in the 20th century, the left were the ones being obscene and offending stuck-up conservatives who were all about the 'traditional christian family values'. Granted, the standards of obscenity back then were much different - a show as mild as "The Simpsons" by today's standards that just showed a dysfunctional family was enough to outrage actual politicians.

Perhaps the metagame is to focus on emotion rather than the truth, make a funny that provokes people rather than explains the history of capitalism and why it's bad.

  • For the longest time, Musk was nothing but just a rich idiot, wasting resources on shitty ideas to pretty much feed his ego.

Though recently, something inexplicable has happened which made him go from being a laughing stock to a genuine danger to the society and the world. Back when he bought twitter, everyone laughed at the rebrand, how the platform was being managed and how he overpaid massively for a money losing business, but now it turns out it was his greatest purchase yet, as the platform has given him unprecedented political and social power.

  • use your phone to look up the commands on how to get internet working again

alternatively, connect computer to your router via cable

  • you don't need to remember anything, except commands you use the most often but even then it becomes muscle memory after a while. If you ever need some specific command to use, just look it up online.
