If that were true then this thread would be full of people providing citations to that excellent documentation, but you will notice a complete absence of that here.

The closest we’ve come in this thread is the Wikipedia page with citations to several historians saying “yeah we mostly think he was probably real based on it would be weird if he wasn’t”

That is a waaaay lower level of certainty than you’re presenting here.

There are not going to be any primary sources of Jesus or any other average person who lived thousands of years ago.

Hence the continued, likely irreconcilable, dispute about whether there was a real Jesus

I, uhhh… you got some sources for this that aren’t the bible? My spouse the religious studies major is here next to me saying that Jesus as real historical figure is extremely highly contested.

Hm that sounds cool but on iPhone tapping an address from contacts seems to only go to Apple Maps. Apple permits options for different default apps for a couple different functions (mail, browser, etc) but not for maps :(

Where do you even go to see a contact to click it? I have the local map downloaded, but CoMaps seems to be completely unaware of my contacts at all.

🤷 I dunno what they’re thinking in detail. I get plenty of discussion on how the family’s doing and grandma’s health problems etc but if they have any opinions on war and desertion they’re not putting it in writing on WhatsApp

I have a Russian friend with teenage kids. I offered to host them for a while and they weren’t interested. I guess sending your kids off to be strangers in a strange land without you is not an easy decision to make.

But for real if you want to actually convince people of things you just can’t talk to them that way. Nobody will listen to that.

I hate the LLM AI. I think it’s corrosive to our minds when we use it, I think if it succeeds as a business technology it will make the world worse by pollution, by robbing people of the incentive to make genuine new creative expressions, and by weakening their ability to make genuine new creative expressions even when they want to. To the extent that it lets people accomplish things they couldn’t otherwise accomplish — which it does — it does so badly in unsafe ways.

I say all that with not the slightest fear of having my comment suppressed, because I’m not attacking you while I do it.

For anybody reading this, I hope my post and all the other zillion posts saying the same thing on Lemmy help you to keep the courage to say “No thanks, boss, I think the work comes out better when I do it myself. By the time I’m done checking, finding, and correcting errors it comes out better and faster my way.”

And I hope you can keep your temper and say it with firm, even conviction. Because all life is politics and how you say things appears to matter more for most people than what you say.

Well, I mean, telling people to go fuck themselves is not the usual way to really connect with people and get a message communicated, exactly…

I’m on programming.dev. I don’t usually pay much attention to which host people are posting from but mostly when I’m reading Lemmy from here I see just waves and waves of “this slop is slop” posts and very few “but no it’s useful” responses.

Almost no posts reach me that start out as pro-AI.

Maybe the driver just pulled the dump valve, got back in the bus, and drove away leaving a long streak of disgusting on the road behind him, but the stretch over the bridge is the only part we hear about??

It seems unlikely any professional driver would expect to get away with that without being noticed.

How does this happen, physically? Do fancy tour buses have a “dump poop” button that the driver can actuate while under way?

My motor home has a black tank with a dump valve, but to open it I have to be standing outside the back of the vehicle, open a big hatch to the wet bay, and pull a lever. This is not something that could happen while the vehicle is in motion.

Also it takes a few minutes for the tank to drain out — much longer than the time to drive across a bridge — and if I did it without the sewer hose attached it would mostly go out the hole for the sewer hose under the dump valve, but also I’m sure the side splatter would make an unholy disgusting mess inside the wet bay as well.

Assuming you wanted to do a deed like this with any normal motor home, I don’t see how you could.

Mostly tradies are learning by hands-on apprenticeship with a master. All that discussion is not on the internet.

I am still reading Reddit for a couple niche topics that Lemmy doesn’t cover. (RVs and Sailing)

And I keep reading about how Reddit it’s going to shit with all AI bots everywhere, but in my small subreddits I read, everything was fine.

But now the bots have come for RVs and lately all the posts are like, “So, fellow humans, does anybody want to discuss the pros and cons of the new Model XYZ trailer?”

So now I have one topic left on Reddit….

I was not trying to be rude here.

I was trying to make a point that, when we are faced with choices having only unpleasant options — taking one of those unpleasant options is still a choice.

We have limited agency in this world, and saying “I had no choice, I had to do it” instead of “of the various choices I had, I picked this one as least-bad” is a kind of self-delusion that makes our lives feel even more constrained than they really are.

Keeping this awareness in mind, that I do have other choices, helps me hold my emotions together in times like now when I find myself choosing to swallow a shit sandwich as my best-available option.
