  • If the US provided free health care, tankies would rebel by buying their own private health insurance.

  • Damn, you're right. That was what triggered the change. Literally one year ago and all of the events blurred together in my memory already smh.

  • China uplifting the global South through cheap solar, electric mobility (not just cars but ebikes, scooters, etc), and digital connectivity. What a change of pace from the previous centuries of Western subjugation (to put it mildly) and extraction of resources.

  • He's Clinton-coded, but unlike ol' Bill he lacks the affable charm that would make anyone in middle America trust him.

  • Haha, that brief two or three week period after Harris replaced Biden and the media pivoted HARD into hopeful optimism for our girlboss heroine. They suddenly backtracked from their months long defense of Biden's cognitive decline and then admitted he was too mentally frail to survive another presidency but here comes a vibrant new replacement to crush Orange Man! And Dems fell for it hard, with poll numbers showing a resurgence of hope for victory. And then the assassination attempt on Trump derailed everything. I think they still would have lost, but there wouldn't be as dramatic of a shift in sentiment without it.

  • The defense working on testimony to show that the child characters are actually 1000 year old vampires.

  • Love the flex of showing off that delicious pudding and turning Shinzo's assassination into an afterthought.

  • Gonna be making excuses for the people joining ICE because "they needed to pay their bills" by the next election.

  • All of those are way more rewarding than scrolling on a phone, but most of them actually have a higher carbon footprint. Not that life should be lived purely on that metric, but the ad aims to guilt people for their screen usage. Reminds me of a discussion I read around this chart:

Modern batteries are so efficient that an e-bike has less carbon footprint than traditional cycling- which in itself is much more efficient than walking.

  • Sure, you could, and plenty of people do. But a dab of vaseline is cheaper and won't tear out hairs when you get it off.

  • That Breaking News placement doe

  • Buddy of mine bled through his shirt from nipple chafing. Gotta grease em up beforehand.

  • Holy shit, even attempting a marathon within a year of running is super impressive. Did you have an athletic background in other sports? I've been running regularly since 2020 and the longest race I've completed was a very slow 10k. And I actually played a lot of sports growing up but long distance running is so challenging for me (was more into sports with short bursts of speed).

  • As far as activities you can do in your leisure time go, browsing through your phone probably has less environmental impact than anything other than napping. Even say, reading a (physical) book is usually going to require you to go to a bookstore or library (or worse, have it delivered) which will have carbon expenditure.

  • This is why they're usually carrying a weapon. Not to fight, but so they won't feel awkward with their hands.

  • It feels like Ridley Scott doesn't commit to lore and backstory in his franchises and just wings it as he goes along. That's why everything in the Alien franchise feels disconnected from each other aside from the two OG films.

  • No one with a sub 5% mortgage is selling and that is a good chunk of the US housing market that is off the market. So everyone has to fight over the remaining supply driving prices up. It used to be that empty nesters would downsize once the kids are gone but they're not gonna budge now if they have to take on 7% rates.

  • How does it compare to Raised By Wolves? That show had one of the best pilots I've ever seen but the rest of the series never lived up to its promise.
