  • Why is there symbol of islam as piefed.social logo?

  • This place is based on politics. You are on a decentralised, open-source space with mamy people being various kinds of left.

    Without politics this place will probably become hollow and eventually die.

    People tend to ignore politics in their life, while the system we live in destroys us. It is a good idea to talk about politics (and do stuff about it).

  • Anarchist opposition to private property rests on two, related, arguments. These were summed up by Proudhon's maxims (from What is Property? that "property is theft" and "property is despotism." In his words, "Property . . . violates equality by the rights of exclusion and increase, and freedom by despotism . . . [and has] perfect identity with robbery." [Proudhon, What is Property, p. 251] Anarchists, therefore, oppose private property (i.e. capitalism) because it is a source of coercive, hierarchical authority as well as exploitation and, consequently, elite privilege and inequality. It is based on and produces inequality, in terms of both wealth and power.

    The state also ends up marginalising "our" representatives

    • As power rests not in the elected bodies, but in a bureaucracy, popular control becomes increasingly meaningless
      • It's the institutions that have power in the state due to their permanence, not the representatives who come and go

    What if the leftovers of programs in the filesystem make up the bureaucracy of the operating system? And thats why we try to make state-less systems?

  • So yeah, I'm giving some extra structure to the weekly reading we do.

    This megathread should (hopefully) make things better:

    • It should be one place where all the posts are listed, so you can click on the post with the Section you want and view it quickly.
    • It will be pinned, reducing the work on the mods/admins (having to pin a new post every week eventually gets tiring).

    PS. Feedback request: Let me know what you think, I discussed it a bit on the matrix server, but I'd like some broader feedback on this. I initially started this using hexbear's way of doing group readings, but I feel like this is a huge book and probably needs a different organisation.
