Yeah I'm a real person, the name is just a reference to getting banned on Reddit many times, and then getting banned immediately across several discuss.online communities for hurting a mod's feelings. I guess if it's going to happen, might as well ask for it.

But you can't fuck her, she's gonna be around forever and in society where your secret won't be safe. It's just that he has an odd tendency to take photos of you.   • Where was the outrage - and where IS it still - about PCs and circuit manufacturing that allowed the computing revolution to occur? The negative externalities have always been kids getting cancer, growing up scavenging metals from landfills in other countries. Whole generations of people.

    Just about everything we do has negative externalities like that. Plastic recycling, textile production, the labor used to build houses and harvest crops in the US.

    I'm not trying to tu quoque anyone here, because we should be able to criticize things even though we participate in those or other problematic issues. But it seems like the AI hatred is so strong on this site, and it's absent any other hatred and outrage that could have long been a focal point up until now. We get it, you hate AI, which has been around for a few years in LLM form and hasn't been perfected yet, even though consumer electronics companies have still not managed to meet their environmental goals after decades, and you're certainly using those devices to your hearts content.

    Sometimes I think Lemmy should just be renamed "We fucking hate AI and will never budge on that."

  • Same reason they only come out when surrounded by bulletproof glass or in sniper-controlled areas now. They don't want to be individually targeted.

    Now it's interesting to imagine what would happen if hundreds of officials were individually targeted, but having a bunch of guns at your house ≠ that. Still the issue of targeted suppression exists, and would be highly effective.

    If you burn down a neighborhood, if you shoot an RPG or a drone at a house, none of the guns inside matter, except they make it more lethal as you try to escape. They also make your house more unsafe for kids and yourself (statistically).

    Arming yourself up defensively just doesn't do much. If they want you dead, they're gonna do it in a zero-casualty-for-them way. They can do that en masse, they can do that in rural or urban areas. They train for that 24/7. They love that.

    Arming yourself offensively, well that's something else. I don't know if that's what's being suggested when this issue comes up though.

  • Thank you! Same thing happened in the South after the freak storm in January, we had snow/ice for like 10 days which is hugely abnormal, no snow removal was done, streets became sheets of ice. Mail delivery stopped for a week. Everything did. Schools shut down over a week. I worked from home for a week. Number of people blaming the mayor? 0
