  • I think they were mostly testing it on their own hardware and didnt weigh up how brand damaging it can be for users to download their distro and use it on random hardware and get cooked by random issues. Even linux youtubers run into issues on it. Its getting good fast, if they'd just held it back another year it'd be so good.

  • Cosmic is not in beta. Its presented as a LTS option front page on system76's website. Linus does play the lighten rod role for critism but in this one he was completely justified, popOS was a fair choice for a new user and it was a bad experience. Now experienced linux users can see this from a mile away but hes obviously not doing a video about installing linux as an experienced user.

  • He uses Bazzite and Kubuntu in the next video.

  • Why do you assume no one else is having those issues? Cosmic is in a terrible state right now.

  • The video is 3 different people not just Linus. PopOS is not an uncommon choice, go into any beginner linux space and you'll find people installing it all the time. All the issues were from System76 this time and last time.

  • got popOS from this so its still just as cooked.

  • It should be labeled as beta but its not. Its version 1.something so there is no warning of instability on the download page. Really massive L from system76.

  • The reaction of the linux community to this video was fucking embarrassing.

  • wtf is that headline. Its a nice improvement but I wouldnt go that far. Its 5-10mins afters and has a better operating temp(allegedly) and ~10-20% extra range. Its nice but the gap isnt that huge.

  • They unironically released doctorGPT

  • OpenClaw now comes with a therapist AI to talk other AIs off the ledge so they dont nuke your project and themselves.

  • I filled out the form after playing for nearly 2 hours. I thought the form really lacked places to give feedback so im gonna put it here.

What I liked, the movement mechanic, the combat, balancing foraging and building. My favorite thing was collecting and trading the relic items that gave your tribe bonuses I thought this fit the theme and gameplay perfectly. Music and art was solid.

What I didnt like, late game there is to many other tribes that surround and box you in and you get attacked constantly. The specialist select felt bad, they need to do something in my opinion to become a specialist otherwise you're constantly selecting specialists with no care who they are. There should be a few more things to build early as it felt like 99% of my turns were foraging(maybe thats intended if so then thats fine). The events that you select like scaring off predators there is no feedback to tell the player what the outcome was. This should be more apparent in my opinion.

Overall I enjoyed it even if it was a bit unpolished.

    Some UI/UX comments.

When you hit enough culture to make a choice it should popup, same for science. It should be more clear that you have to right click on the same square if you dont want to move that turn this confused me for way to long.

  • The Robertsons were to nice for their own good and Dr Smith was a cunning bastard.

  • Copilot is a brand name for an LLM assistant. Im saying LLM assistants will be built into every OS. Information that doesnt need to be correct makes sense but you just dont get it. When you read an article posted on Lemmy/c/news a lot of the time thats not correct but no one actually cares because it doesnt need to be correct it just needs to be good enough.

Another example is a recipe, there is no correct recipe so whatever info you get back from an LLM will probably be good enough.

  • France and Italy is suprising. Do they really not trust their each other?

  • Wtf this looks good. Gonna download the demo and play it as soon as I get home.

  • lost in space. It was just so refreshing to have the entire family be intelligent competent people instead of bumbling idiots.

  • I actually couldnt find any public info to back up my comment so maybe a HN comment wasnt enough to go off. But Idk if announcing they partnered with OpenAI to integrate it would even improve things given their current actions.

  • Get a modpack from Wabbajack. It comes with 1000s of mods and makes the game feel entirely new.
