  • It sucks that Netflix only allowed the first two seasons (when it was just a cute, edgy cartoon about the unreality of Hollywood/LA, rather than a statement on the human condition) to be released on DVD/BluRay. I’d love to have a copy of “The View From Halfway Down” in my library.

  • Could you not also control the height of the pattern by having more stitches under the raised parts?

  • Could an embroidery machine be programmed to set the stitches’ directions as in the picture?

  • And yet affluent countries have birth rates below the 2.1 required for a steady population, meaning that in a generation’s time, the ratio between pensioners and productive workers will be a lot worse.

If the population is locked in to shrink in a few decades, a country will need immigration to stave off economic collapse. If Switzerland is concerned by large numbers of new immigrants arriving in a short timeframe and changing the culture, the sensible thing to do is to keep a slower, steady influx of immigrants coming in, assimilating and guiding the next ones in.

  • I have a bottle of Gin Mare bought in Spain with such a stamp on the cap.

  • It doesn’t look impossible to make, so it probably could exist, given enough of the time of a sufficiently skilled embroiderer.

  • I just downloaded the demo of Relooted, and am about to give that a go. It looks interesting.

  • We regret to inform you that the furries are at it again

  • Was she a military officer? Was it common for female royals to hold military office, or is that just Prussia being Prussia?

  • Tim Cook thought he had saved Apple’s stock valuation by giving Trump his fake award, but, like the businessman who pays protection money, he merely marked Apple out as pliable. Now it’s the Apple News “radical left bias”. After Cook personally intervenes and gets the algorithm to deprioritise The Guardian and Mother Jones and boost Fox News and The Daily Stormer, Apple stock will shoot up for a week or two, only to be brought low by a complaint about Apple TV shows being “woke”. Then they’ll have to drop some non-white and LGBT characters, commission a Turner Diaries show and hastily rewrite the next Ted Lasso season to work in a Great Replacement storyline, which will work until the next complaint.

  • As long as the US doesn’t side with Russia

  • What exactly are Blavatnik’s politics here? He allegedly had some involvement with the Brexit campaign, and is said to be connected to the international oligarchical right’s antidemocratic push, though apparently supports liberals in Israel?

  • Well, Swift has been a huge phenomenon for over a decade, so you’d expect profit-maximising corporations to skate as close to riding her coattails as they can get away with. Sort of how McDonalds allegedly made Ronald McDonald look subtly more like Michael Jackson in the 80s.

  • Don’t be so oversure. Everyone seems to be concluding that this will result in the Tories becoming even more unelectable and in permanent ALP one-party rule until the Greens become the opposition or the sun goes nova, though seem to have forgotten that the equally dislikable gronk Dutton was cruising to victory until the realities of the second Trump administration derailed the electoral ambitions of the Trump-adjacent right (as they did in Canada).

If Labor rests on the comfort of having no challengers and becomes shit and the public get sick of them, they will eventually vote for someone else whom the billionaire-owned media push, whether is whatever megachurch headbangers are jumping up and down under the Liberal Party banner, Hanson, Palmer, some actual neo-Nazis who have unconvincingly repudiated the whole master-race thing and strategically only wear long-sleeved shirts, or someone else. And then we’ll be back to where we were in the long Howard era, where it’s as common knowledge that The Strayans Are A Conservative Mob as it was before the election that Yeah Nah We’re Not Buying It.

  • It’s not near the hundred worst things that happened due to WW2, though it’s not alright either.

  • Only if you’re otherwise unlucky, as you’re not leaving the ground

  • As of a few years ago, Sennheiser’s consumer line is owned by Sonova, a hearing aid manufacturer (who I think may be American)
