  • And make your kids help with stuff regardless of gender. So many people grow up without basic life skills bc parents didn't involve them in activities regardless of the gender-coded-ness of those activities.

  • No it's: D U M M Y W I T H O U T W H Y

  • Don't jump to conclusions just yet. Epstein had lots of ties to people. Not all of them are pedos. Look at the actual correspondence they had, there isn't anything incriminating except the mere association with him.

  • And additionally, looking at the emails he actually sent and received from Epstein, they seem totally innocuous. Until I see actual evidence of wrongdoing, I'm going to withhold judgement. None about anything untoward, just literally stuff about politics and linguistics. Chomsky seemed to be corresponding with a similar rushed tone like he does in other correspondence - man answers a lot of emails.

By contrast, Trump has many accounts of sexual harrassment and assault perpetrated by him, lots of circumstantial evidence tying him to the shady side of Epstein's dealings, emails about him blowing bubba, etc.

  • My wife is on the ace spectrum. She enjoys sex, but only experiences reactive sexual desire (i.e. she'll get in the mood once sex is basically already happening). Effectively she does not experience sexual desire in the way people typically mean that.

That's been a struggle for us. We don't do scheduled sex, but it's something we've considered. Even though we have very good (if infrequent) sex, the frequency isn't the thing that's hard for me to deal with. The hardest thing is not feeling desired in ways I am used to in relationships. That has made me feel insecure and just overall is not great. But it's something we've had to work through.

So all that goes to say: yes, if you find the right person you'll be able to make it work. The key, in my opinion, is talking about it and being very clear about how you're wired and that it isn't anything wrong with them.

  • Well sure. CEOs' main job is to coordinate the functions of major business units with the wishes of shareholders/the board of directors. Ultimately they're a middleman on the hook for the results of the business without actual direct control of day to day operations.

Effectively that means they give broad goals and direction to named execs, who translate those goals into actions for their organizations, that middle managers direct their teams to achieve. Then middle managers report success/failure to named execs, who report back to the CEO who (in conjunction with the other named execs) reports success/failure to shareholders & the board along with financial results.

The execs all are basically on the hook for the results of the decisions made by those below them, but they only decide the broad strokes of the actions of the business.

LLMs could do most of that. The only problem is they can't really make decisions properly. But they could pretty easily turn what is said by the board & shareholders into goals for others to enact - and maybe determine if actions taken by the business support the goals to some degree.

That is like 80% of the job of a CEO.

  • "A borgor republic is a country with an economy of the best type of capitalism, where the country is operated as a private commercial enterprise for the exclusive profit of the job creators. Typically, a borgor republic has a 100% meritocratic society, usually a lot of lazy welfare queens looking for handouts and a ruling class of brilliant, innovative job creators and democratically elected politicians selflessly carrying out the will of the people."

  • Imo this is one of the least dystopian things about LLMs. Helping package my work experiences into corporatese is something I gladly welcome from our ai overlords - because doing that manually sucks. Now the fact that recruiters use LLMs to scan everything and won't bother reading but what AI tells them are the top X applicants... that is dystopian and garbage

  • US does mulled wine, but it's more of a general winter thing. More common up north in areas with more northern european influence, I think. Mince pies aren't really a thing, though, which is a shame.

  • Yes. There is no reason not to. Various aspects of the job search are time intensive and LLMs can help you speed it up.

I used LLMs to help get my current job. It was a good editor for my stuff (letters, resumes) and helped me turn my ideas and experiences into language optimized for recruiters and hiring managers in my field

Just don't be a dumbass. Like... LLMs are really stupid and will not produce good quality stuff all the time. Use them for drafting, idea generation, help rephrasing things. Don't just expect them to do all your stuff for you. Also, recruiters use LLMs to pick candidates - so tuning your stuff for that is (unfortunately) kind of important - very similar to search engine optimization.

I got my job really fast because I put a lot of effort into each application (and job market was better when I got hired a couple years back). Try to think what recruiters from that company want to see. Also include lots of key terms - especially from job postings that you want/are similar to those you do. LLMs can help isolate the relevant buzzwords if you want - but that's easy to do manually

    Examples of things to do:

    1. reviewing resume. It can't write a good resume, but it can help draft & give ideas for rephrasing things in ways that are more likely to get recruiter attention.
    2. polishing up linkedin profile. Linkedin sucks and is garbage - but you need one. Why not let LLMs help you turn your resume into an effective linkedin page? Also, LLMs have access to all the shitty articles on how to make your linkedin more appealing - that way you don't need to read them
    3. cover letters. Cover letters are much overlooked by job seekers - largely because it sucks having to write/edit dozens of them. Let LLM draft a cover letter and help you change out the words to suit each company you're applying to.
    4. interview prep. Have it quiz you. People sometimes post interview questions online. LLMs can access that. So why not ask it to interview you like whatever company you're prepping for
  • They're really like "the lesson of the holocaust is antisemitism bad" which, like, okay sure that is part of the lesson. But there were an additional 6M victims who were not jewish. Incredibly selfish take to think that your marginalized group is the only one that matters & to claim the entirety of the holocaust's conferred victim status when your group was only 50% of the victims.

  • Sounds like he wants a hush money payment. We'll see how it works out for him...

  • 很酷!很多的人也很多的我的朋友 from my hometown & childhood 和你一样来自中国。我喜欢能看到 the etymology in a 汉字。

I wish 我的中文是足够好 to understand 中文 TV. 老师小猪佩奇不是有趣的。

  • True. As a guy who grew up in a house where housework was shared and who does more than an equal share of housework despite working 50-60hr weeks, I can't stand guys who act as though they're too useless to be able to clean up after themselves, cook, etc. Serious moral failing on their part, especially when they expect their partner to be their new mommy and do it all for them.

  • 我正在学习中文。中文很难!

I took a break from learning Chinese for a while due to personal stuff being busy and am trying to get back into it. Chinese is a very logical language, I think, and learning it is fun and interesting but challenging. I was just about HSK1 level, I think, before I stopped. I gotta boot up peppa pig in mandarin again - 你好小猪佩奇老师,我是你的学生!

  • Yeah. Autopens have been used for like... 150 years or something? And they involve the president actually authorizing the signature, whereas Stephen Miller or some aide or somebody is just copying and pasting this shit on random documents

    Edit: over 200 years. https://www.shapell.org/behind-the-scenes/the-robot-pen/

  • Overton window got yeeted so far to the right it ended up hitting 88mph and travelling back to 1930s germany

  • hand gestures, trump voice It's called ephuba... epheeba... ephebiolphilia, folks, look it up. These girls. Women. Beautiful women, because you know, I'm only attracted to beautiful. I ran the miss USA pagent for years, you know that? I'm very proud of it. They call me up sometimes and say, "Mr. Trump, the evil, socialist communist left says beauty pagents are wrong and we have to give awards to ugly ladies with nose rings. Please come back". I have to tell them I'm just too busy saving America. But these women aren't kids. They're smart, intelligent ladies. The left hates beautiful women. They say "Donald is robbing the cradle he's a pedophile". That's fake news. Fake. News. Children don't have... well you know just look at these girls. They're very well-endowed, these ladies and I won't bow down to the evil communists. They're the pedophiles folks. Why doesn't anyone look into sleepy Joe sniffing all those girls' hair - it's creepy. But I'm attracted to beautiful. All the most beautiful things... you've seen my new bathroom, right? It's the greatest bathroom in the history of indoor plumbing... Kim told me that on the phone yesterday. He said he could see it through the window in pictures.
