  • The humanoid robots thing that various companies (and I guess the CCP now?) are trying to push is so weird to me.

Like if they are doing it so that people feel more comfortable interacting with them, I guarantee they will not feel warm and fuzzy about a humanoid border cop robot. If they are doing it because a humanoid robot is more effective than other forms, there's no way that's true given how difficult they are to balance/stabilize/move/etc.

So like... why? Just the cool factor? Seems dumb.

  • Just goes to show how much of longevity is genetic

No amount of alcohol is healthy and grapes are highly toxic to cats and dogs

  • You could say abhorrent to someone. Like

"It is abhorrent to me that conservatives are such rubes and, realizing this, they say 'hurr durr not who I voted for' when it literally is."

That is gramatically correct and means "I find it abhorrent". You could say "... abhorrent to [anyone]" as long as the person you're referrencing has the capacity to find that thing abhorrent.

You couldn't say "this woman's brain is abhorrent to her skull", though, as one's skull can't have opinions - even if hers metaphorically seems to be rejecting her brain.

  • To be fair Rose's character and that whole star wars movie were absolute garbage. Pretty good reason to destroy american hegemony

  • He is worse. Normal US war criminal president stuff (essentially all of them should have been tried at the Hague) plus more-directly assisting in the genocide of Palestinians than other presidents going so far as to state he wants to turn the Gaza strip into a luxury real estate development as payment for aiding and abetting the genocide, more-blatant warmongering with other countries like Venezuela but also long-time US allies like Canada & Greenland & Mexico, weaponizing ICE as secret police to deport politcal enemies and random innocent people to extrajudicial concentration camps both domestically and abroad, "allegedly" sexually assaulting numerous women and kids over decades, theft, fraud, corruption, intentionally harming women & LGBT through policies that only exist to garner support from the furthest-right political elements to keep him in power, terrorizing historically liberal states by weaponizing the military to occupy their largest cities to quell dissent, instill fear in the local populace and demonize them in the eyes of right-wing Americans, regulatory capture & subsequent restructuring the US government in ways that make it more harmful than it was to people around the world (not just people in the US) and more easily able to pass legislation with a fascist bent as they are more-easily able to circumvent constitutional protections that would prevent some of the American Right's more egregious fascist and right-wing goals from being achieved.

He is much worse. His elections (fucking twice) were tremendous victories for fascist movements globally. The only possible benefits are through an accelerationist lens - long-term this may weaken US imperial power. Maybe. Or it maintains its dominance but becomes increasingly fascistic and puts the full weight of US intelligence and military behind fascist parties and regimes worldwide causing more countries to fall under control of fascist political parties.

  • We have the benefit of hindsight. It is possible Chomsky didn't know about that. Possible. Epstein knew lots of people - only some of them went to the island and not all of those went to assault kids.

It's correct to be suspicious. Even very suspicious. It is not correct to draw definite conclusions without more information. The information that we have does not implicate him in illegal stuff, so far.

  • What is a gun if not a tube that you can choose to put explosives into to fire a projectile from the tube? I see no reason you couldn't load a clarinet like a tiny blunderbuss and fire it once. Turns out AI is pretty smart afterall

  • That is a bit of a misnomer since figuring things out requires at least a double-digit IQ and I don't have one of those.

  • True - I totally agree.

  • I will read it. Regardless, though, he is associated with the left and him going down for this would be bad PR for the left broadly, which sucks - that's my only point other than we don't know he's done anything untoward here.

  • If you look at his emails with Epstein, it's literally Epstein asking him about his academic work, Epstein toying with various little theories and asking Chomsky about them, etc. All above board so far. Him being on the plane is not great, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's a pedo. It opens up that possibility, but there is not proof of him doing anything wrong. Yet. I really hope he didn't do anything wrong, but it's obviously a possibility.

No matter what you think about Chomsky, he's an extremely important intellectual figure and is associated with the left. Him going down would be bad for all of us - so I hope he's not a bastard.

  • They aren't promoting an environmentalist message here though, but an anti-animal-cruelty message. You can agree or disagree that it's a good message, but it has nothing to do with their shitty AI ad.

  • This guy looks like George W Bush's latino cousin Jorge Dubleve Bush

  • Women naturally want to do womanly things because God created us with those womanly desires in our hearts.

Amazing. Profound. And what is a womanly thing? Probably the things women do because of the womanly desires god puts in their hearts.

  • I took an interview with Tesla a while back (not because I had any intention of working there, just to hear about it). Recruiter mentioned how the company is basically all in on their humanoid robot.

I asked - why humanoid? Why not better forms or purpose-built for specific/subsets of tasks? The answer was basically Elon wants his factories operated by humanoid robots. That's it. No greater degree of thought from one of the most "valuable" companies in the world in designing what is intended to be a flagship product.

  • I was there once. Some old white dude in flip flops told me about how 1) aliens made this with cold lasers (because no burn marks on the rock/they aren't melted) and/or gave humans the technology to make it, 2) he's psychic and has prophetic dreams - particularly he predicted a bunch of natural disasters, he said.

Either way, yep those rocks fit together really tightly; it's neat.
