  • Compliance does need to be considered. The company I work for is trying extremely hard to comply, but because of complexities and ambiguities in the law, it is difficult to find out how to comply. I don't know all the details, but I know legal, compliance, and the data engineering teams spend a lot of time figuring out how to be compliant and there aren't always clear answers.

That said, the solution is not to roll back protections but to be very explicit about how to comply.

  • Oh sweet. I thought there were some obscure indigenous languages that didn't use em, but wasn't sure. Good to know!

    Edit:

    1. looking into it a little more (https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_pronouns), looks like there is a reasonably strong argument that Japanese doesn't use pronouns. Basically, pronouns in japanese are a subclass of nouns and arguably not a distinct part of speech. "School grammar" teaches that they are not distinct.

For instance, watashi (normally translated as "I") really means something more like "individual". Also second person pronouns are considered rude, but the words used as second person "pronouns" are also just nouns that have over time taken on pronoun-like usage, but don't mean "you". So the pronouns Japanese has are kind of.. not pronouns.. and are ommitted in casual speech anyway (pro-drop)

    1. also, per https://wals.info/chapter/99 - Wichita & Wari' lack any pronouns and Canela-Krahô lack any pronouns in the Object (but allow them for Subjects of transitive and intransitive verbs).
  • What they actually are saying: "I do not understand grammar, not just of English, but a basic function of essentially all natural language"

What they mean: "I refuse to declare pronouns. My pronouns are he/him, you can tell by looking at me because... come on... it's obvious in my case, so don't pretend like it isn't and I resent people telling me to declare pronouns because I think it is cringe and a threat to my masculinity. Also neopronouns are weird and dumb."

What would be funnier and more wholesome if they meant: "Chud Johnson have no pronouns. Chud think should be specific when speaking. Pronoun create ambiguity by obscuring the object or subject of sentence. Or pronoun add information into sentence that may be incorrect - like gender if gender is not known for certain, but assumed."

  • Their logo is a stylized poop emoji

  • It stops taking as much effort eventually. Then you can tune out the noise and think about stuff. Or it never does because everyone is different, I guess, but then you just do what you have to do.

  • That's true. But finding inner quiet is an even more necessary skill in those situations. But, I'm autistic (only mildly), so I totally get if the stimulation is just too much. Though I went through a lot of discomfort to be okay in environments like that.

  • It's good to enjoy quiet and not be constantly surrounding yourself with noise. It's an important skill to be able to sit in silence and not rely on external stimulation to feel okay.

  • I know several working class folks who grew up in the USSR who, while they admit it wasn't perfect, were very happy with how things were then and - although some of them are now onboard the Pravda train to looneyville & love Putin and believe the Russian Orthodox church line that Ukraine is led by baby-eating Nazi Pedophiles (not an exaggeration) - they admit things are much worse than they were then and place the blame squarely on moving away from communism & planned economy.

Because of strong social programs, they had access to good education, work & a high quality of life, and a level of recreation and leisure that seems wild to me as an American.

Communism is not a monolith. There are many tendencies. And YMMV depending on the folks in power, just like any system. Additionally, despots love to call themselves socialist/communist while doing nothing relating to seizing the means of production - look at Cambodia (Khmer Rouge) as an example.

Imagine if we asked folks "What's your experience been like living in a capitalist regime". Most people would think thats a weird question because of how many types of capitalist regimes exist. Your experience will vary wildly if you are from like rural Kenya vs the US vs Scandinavia.

  • It's very hard to make jokes when the bad guys are so cartoonish. Thanks comrade

  • Oof. I will be more careful in the future.

  • It was so obviously parody - ridiculous is sort of the point...

Like the comment is removed now, but it was very apparently a joke. And not even an offensive one. On a post where op said theyre a trans gay communist dog. I love my trans folks.

  • Oh, well if that's the primary goal - to eliminate food deserts - then hell yeah. Makes total sense

  • Yeah this was always my issue with it. I can understand the plan to drive down the price of goods with government subsidized competition, but that only works if it's a highly available alternative.

  • 哎呀!中文很难!

  • 🙏

  • Also it's part of this idiom

    为虎作伥

    wèihǔzuòchāng

play the jackal to the tiger—help a villain do evil

Wei = preposition meaning in the interest of/for the sake of

    Hu = tiger

Zuo = in this sense, like "to act as"

Chang = member of the leopards eating faces party (RIP)

Edit: i got confused about wei.

  • Looks like bald nathan fielder

  • Nice. I've been wanting to get into baguettes. I didn't realize initially how much baking stuff I'd end up "needing" to get lol.
