Yet another refugee who washed up on the shore after the great Reddit disaster of 2023

  • I had an assembly class in college. I didn't love of at all. Got my first job after graduating and it was writing space shuttle engine control software, which was in assembly. I was kind of surprised at how fast it became natural after dealing with it full time. Still, it felt luxurious when we upgraded the controller and could do the software in C.

  • Yes, the network that had to pay nearly a billion dollars for pushing a false narrative in order to get Trump elected the last time around is the perfect venue. Oh, and a live Fox News audience? What could be bad about that?

    What a joke.

  • "Important to be" is the wrong language, but it's absolutely fine if someone doesn't find someone else attractive because of their height, color, or anything else. Attraction is subjective.

  • Attraction is subjective. There are norms, but everyone has their own preferences. Never listen to anyone who claims to speak for any giant group of people (gender, race, culture, whatever). Most women aren't going to tell you that, but there are assholes in every group. If they're speaking for themselves, that's fine though: no one is obligated to disregard any of your attributes.

When I went bald, there were women who said bald guys aren't attractive. But then there were some who said they were especially attractive, and most just didn't care.

  • At the risk of making a serious reply in a shitpost thread...

Who you're attracted to and what you're looking for is subjective. No one else gets a say in what that is.

However, there are repercussions. The more rare what you're looking for is, the harder it is to find. The more broadly desired what you're looking for is, the more you're competing with other people.

So sure, go looking for what you want, but be aware that you might be looking a long time, and they might not be interested in you.

  • Ignorant racists with a poor understanding of government and history come in all colors.

  • I've heard people seriously saying that Jamaicans aren't black. Like what the hell?

  • The article makes a mention of the early part of the movie Her, where he's writing a heartfelt, personal card that turns out to be his job, writing from one stranger to another. That reference was exactly on target: I think most of us thought outsourcing such a thing was a completely bizarre idea, and it is. It's maybe even worse if you're not even outsourcing to someone with emotions but to an AI.

  • Yeah, true, there's an increased risk, and I'm not as good about it as I should be.

  • Older guy here, went bald in my 20s. Let me say this: while going bald or becoming bald sucks ass, being bald is fine. I had lots of thick hair, and when it started going away and I didn't look like me in the mirror anymore. I figured women would find me less attractive.

What I learned is that it takes a while for your self image to catch up to your reflection in the mirror. One of the shitty things for most people about going bald is that it happens over a long time, and when you're used to one level of baldness, it gets worse. But eventually it levels out.

There are women who aren't attracted to bald guys (and that's fine, attraction is subjective), but it turns out there are women who are especially attracted to bald guys, and that the vast majority of women don't care. Doing things like having a comb-over or wearing a toupee are often a turnoff, but I think it's as much because of the associated lack of confidence than the look itself.

I can sincerely say that I wouldn't want my hair back today. The look suits me and it's easier to deal with.

  • Chocolate

  • Yep, I looked them up just to see but, like you said, the fact that it exists doesn't mean anything. I didn't find anything (good or bad) associated with that phone number - could be spoofed.

  • Really? I wonder why. Though I've always assumed the one on my phone was from Verizon, not the app or the OS.

  • For sure don't in any way respond, just report spam and block the number. Lots of these things are phishing attempts, trying to get you to give personal information (or even money), and aren't connected to the things they mention.

  • The couch things was funny, but it's not the reason to hate Vance, and posting this comment in every single thread about him is annoying. We can do better.

  • Man, I'm so happy with the way this is going so far. I sure hope she wins the election.

  • Each of them has to deal with the economic and political realities of the states they govern/represent. A politician pushing hard on liberal/progressive views wouldn't be in their places in red/purple states. But we want someone popular in a red or purple state to help sway the election.

  • They're going to pick someone who is popular in a purple state, and is going to help calm people who want to see someone more mainstream. I'd love a progressive, but it's going to be a straight white male from a purple state. I'll be super surprised if it's anything else. And I get it: the #1 objective here is to win, and every decision has to be predicated on that.

And besides, AOC is really young and will have lots of opportunities.
