  • The thing that did it for me was several years ago when Russia disconnected the whole country from the Internet for a day and Reddit instantly transformed. Nearly all of the trolls in political threads disappeared, and discussions became nicer and way more the left-leaning.

  • Ah, okay, makes sense. So not an acronym.

  • Oh, obvious...

  • The article never says what NKD stands for

  • I'd forgotten about those games. Played a little in college in the 80s.

  • That's funny, I took a similar pic yesterday

  • Looks delicious

  • Good niiiiiiiiiiiiight

  • I was thinking that an LLM probably did write it.

  • At least some of the demographics is likely because older folks often have more free time to be able to get out and protest, but I know an awful lot of passionately liberal boomers.

And you're right, now that conservatives are being undeniably impacted, it seems that their support of Trump might be faltering.

  • Slightly more boomers voted conservative in the last few elections than voted liberal. Slightly more of the younger generations voted liberal. The difference isn't that stark. If you attended any of the no kings protests, you saw that the overwhelming majority were older folks. This kind of age prejudice isn't helping anything.

  • My problem with most southern sweet tea is that it's too sweet. I love sweetened iced tea, but usually get unsweetened and add either sugar or lemonade (the latter if it's real, and not that stuff that's mixed from a powder).

  • Huh, I wonder if it set off the confetti anyway

  • Looks like the first message has an engagement ring and heart emoji

  • I think it's the "automatically rewarded" part that's the key flaw in the OP.

I recently retired after working for 40 years at the same company. My general approach (to life, not just work) is similar to the post, but with some tweaks. I would phrase it more like:

    • Be empathetic, and treat everyone with respect.
    • Work hard and be willing to volunteer for the tasks that nobody wants, but don't give so much of yourself away that you'll resent it.
    • Strive for fairness in your handling of situations, but never expect life to be fair because it isn't.

I had a very satisfying career. I went as high up in a leadership chain as I wanted to go, and had really enjoyable relationships with folks at all levels. But that last bit is very important: life just isn't fair. That doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for fairness though.

  • This is the way I do it too. Works amazingly well.

In case it's not clear, you use two large bowls, mouth to mouth like a clam shell. Shake the hell out of them, then it will be just naked cloves and paper inside.

  • More than just giving the benefit of a doubt, especially in dating situations, people often fill in what they don't know about the other person with what they want to be true. It's not necessarily a conscious thing, but it happens a lot.
