  • Makes it sound like it's part of your keyboard app

  • Honestly, I feel the same way. This "he who shall not be named" thing is dumb. If the song is offensive, it's still going to be offensive if you replace it be saying "the N word" or whatever. But I'd also go back to the "know your audience" thing. If there's someone in ear shot who is going to be triggered by a white person singing it, then maybe don't sing it.

  • Oh, duh, that makes sense

  • Oh, thank you. Is it pronounced like 'A'?

  • We always told our kids that if we heard them saying something hurtful, they were going to get in trouble, whether or not they used a cuss word. If they used a cuss word in a way that wasn't hurtful, we didn't care. The caveat being that lots of other adults, including many teachers, do care, so they should watch their audience.

By the same token, if they were singing a song or quoting someone that used a cuss word, we'd rather they say the word than self-censor it. If everyone know what word you mean, what's the point?

  • I'm not sure what that refers to, and I'm not getting it from the replies.

  • Yeah, but he does struggle with a lot of things. Pretty sure he also has ADHD. I know folks who were helped immensely by meds.

  • My adult son is clearly on the spectrum (seems to avoid getting diagnosed, though I think it would do him a lot of good). When he was very young, he would come home in tears if another kid was chewing gum in class, which was against the rules. That kind of thing is still a huge issue for him (rule breaking, not gum chewing).

  • Good point, though the person you're responding to only said it didn't have a sequel.

  • A remake isn't a sequel

  • Oh, okay. Again, I don't know much about him.

  • I don't know too much about him myself. I know he has a foundation that seems to be mostly involved in getting women's salaries increased and other labor-related stuff, but some shit people support good causes, so who knows.

  • The Dirty Jobs guy is Mike Rowe. As I recall he's somewhat right-leaning, but I don't recall anything about him being a Trump Nazi.

  • Doesn't look like you'll be affected for that. If I'm understanding the release right, it's only needed if you're trying to access age restricted content or to get messages from people you might not know. I use it the way you do, and it doesn't look like that's impacted.

  • Doesn't look like this will affect everyone. From the release:

    • Content Filters: Discord users will need to be age-assured as adults in order to unblur sensitive content or turn off the setting.
    • Age-gated Spaces – Only users who are age-assured as adults will be able to access age-restricted channels, servers, and app commands.
    • Message Request Inbox: Direct messages from people a user may not know are routed to a separate inbox by default, and access to modify this setting is limited to age-assured adult users.
    • Friend Request Alerts: People will receive warning prompts for friend requests from users they may not know.
    • Stage Restrictions: Only age-assured adults may speak on stage in servers.

I don't use any of those.

  • I think it's even worse than the double standard. Saying that people shouldn't get married because some decades later your spouse might not be hot is infuriating to me. You're with someone for decades - if the only reason you're with them is because they were smoking hot at 25, you're immensely shallow and immature. People get old. Age happens.

  • How can he show damages when all the other presidents released theirs?

  • I would desperately love for companies to lose big on LLMs. The vast majority of users just don't seem worth the huge energy costs. I do think there are a number of worthwhile ML applications that could make the world better, but I have little faith that they'll be allowed to unless they generate big profits.
