DJ Sharpnel — Yonderdome Decade: 10 Years of DJ Sharpnel [2011, j-core / gabber / happy hardcore]: a ‘best of’ mix from the pioneers of anime-sample-laden hardcore
DJ Sharpnel is actually a duo (and couple) of music producers Jea and Lemmy, one of the first in the j-core genre that mixes hardcore techno or happy hardcore with plenty of vocal samples from anime, Japanese games, tv and such. They started releasing in late nineties, around 1998.
Their label Sharpnelsound also houses other outfits in the same scene. The total number of releases is nearly a hundred. Among others, the duo collaborated multiple times with j-core and speedcore producer m1dy.
The j-core genre was later adopted in the west, notably by the Loli Ripe project that released on 4chan. Much later, in the 2010s, producers like Machine Girl, Renard, Camellia, etc. developed a similar vocal-sampling approach in techno, breakcore and other genres, being also influenced by hyperpop.
Other big j-core labels from the 2000s are Maddest Chick'ndom and Hardcore Tano*C, with artists like TECHNORCH, IOSYS, M-Project.
