♫ I know, I know I've let you dun, and been a foal to myself… ♫

…Can you believe we've already reached the end? 'Cause I can hardly believe it.

The rest of this post may contain spoilers.

"The Ending of the End" (1+2)

The Legion of Doom launch their final attack on Equestria, putting the country on the verge of balkanization. And in case you forgot, Equestria's founding myth says that balkanization literally causes ghost horses to start swirling around in the sky, feeding off the animosity and disharmony between ponies to bring about an ice age apocalypse. Not Good! Will our heroines be able to prevent national collapse and climate apocalypse, and beat the evil Legion of Doom for good?! Find out in the HYPEST finale of an animated series since Kill la got dang Kill!

I'm not even joking about the KLK comparison, to be clear: the first time I watched these episodes back in 2019 I literally thought the battle between Starlight and Chrysalis was oddly "Ryuko vs Ragyo".

"The Last Problem"

After the pure concentrated HYPE of the previous episode we get One More Final as a palette cleanser: a flashback-laden time skip epilogue showing the Mane Six in old(er) age. This episode's final musical number — the last musical number of the whole show! — serves as a quite literal book-end to the series that left most fans at the time agreeing that MLP:FiM really "stuck the landing" and ended in the best way possible.

Then there were some clip shows and Pony Life was a thing for a while but we don't really care about those, do we?

The Last BronyCon: A Fandom Autopsy

Jenny Nicholson's 71 minute documentary on the brony fandom. She was the creator of the abridged-style parody series Friendship is Witchcraft prior to her career as a video essayist.

I'll be playing a roughly 2 minute video after the documentary, presenting my plans for Saturdays now that we're done with FiM.

  • Cultural appropriation: windigos originate in Algonquian folklore.
  • Children in peril.
  • Natural disaster: blizzard.
  • Characters getting their energy sucked out.
  • Fantasy racism.
  • Bodily transformation.
  • Claustrophobia: magical imprisonment.
  • Implied death of elderly characters after a time skip.
  • The fact that it's the series finale might be a bit saddening on its own.
  • Flashing lights.
