Empiricism, as a theory of knowledge rests upon the false proposition that perception and sensation constitute the only material and source of knowledge.
Empiricism, as a theory of knowledge rests upon the false proposition that perception and sensation constitute the only material and source of knowledge.
Marx as a materialist, of course, never denied that the material world, existing prior to and independently of consciousness, is the only source of sensation. But he knew that such a statement, if left at that point, could not provide the basis for a consistent materialism, but at best a mechanical form of materialism, which always left open a loop-hole for idealism.
Truth through vulgar empiricism is only a half truth. It only shows us a sequence of events without ever contending with the causality of the events. It is a false logic that creates in us rote expectations of cause and effect, of common sense action and motive. It can't allow us to grapple with the nature of things, phenomena, or ideas, and their relations.
The evidence is clear but the motive is elusive. It will remain elusive so long as empiricism is the only lens with which we see the world. Like a person with one eye we will walk the earth never seeing its depth.
Lies by extension of this half truth become simple objects which can be banished through illuminating them with the light of empiricism. That when all the facts are laid bare, acceptance of the lie will wash away like words written in sand at the ocean's edge. Simple mechanical misunderstanding that can be solved with knowledge.
This is why the "second" kind of lie is so elusive to the liberal. How can some be so quick to accept such obvious misrepresentation of "reality"? It's almost as though the lies always have a second character. That they are not a simple deception to charm ignorant fools. Instead, they are signals whose transmissions broadcast where the new line is being drawn. They are tests of faith which place the listener into a position to accept this new reality, or be found at the other side of its horrific ends.
It isn't a mystery as to what is happening here, unless you've got one eye closed.
