GOG just dropped Warhammer: Dark Omen, an old retro game with a cult following. Here's some rare mod files for it that don't exist elsewhere on the internet.

Warhammer: Dark Omen

The mod files below don't seem to exist anywhere else on the internet, although they might be floating around in a dusty corner of the internet archive or behind an old forum that requires logging in which I haven't come across. Here's how to run them:

  • Navigate to the installed files for the game and find the 1PARM folder
  • Rename the existing Plyr_all.arm file in that folder to something like "ORIGINALPlyr_all.arm" or "humans.arm"
  • Download the undead, greenskins, or elves ,arm files
  • Rename the file to Plyr_all.arm and place in the 1PARM folder
  • Start the game as usual

You will need to swap around the files and the names depending on what roster you want to play the campaign with. The elves roster only starts with a few elf troops and then the game reverts to the human roster after the starting lineup. There are probably better mods out there somewhere but I haven't gone looking for them, I'm just preserving a small piece of modding history.

Also if you like retro games or you want to play a spiritual ancestor to the Total War games, you might like this game.

Enjoy!
