EU Parliament adopts negotiating position on fighting child abuse online, rejects mass-scanning

No objection was raised in the Parliament plenary to opening negotiations on the basis of the committee vote. The committee had earlier adopted a position paper by rapporteur Javier Zarzalejos (EPP, Spain).
Even though Spain and the conservatives want unrestricted mass-scanning of messages, the parliament's position rejects this part of the proposal.
It's part of the EU lawmaking process that the Parliament, Commission and Council each adopt a position and then go into negotiations with each other on the final form of a law.
