From Tan Yong Lin
The resident spotted wood owl pair at Pasir Ris Park recently welcomed a chick. Hatched in the protective cover of a bird’s-nest fern, the chick has been growing steadily. Lately it has begun venturing outside the nest while its parents watch from the canopy. With ungainly steps and occasional wing-bracing for balance, it slowly climbs the branches and, after much determination, reaches a safe perch near the canopy. Soon, as it gains strength, this little one will take its first flight and fledge.
