    They’re defined differently because liberals desperately want them to be.

    The left is revolutionary-progressive politics. The right is conservative-regressive politics. Those are the anchors. Those have always been the anchors.

    In the 1700s, when the term was first being used, being a liberal was left wing, because that was relatively revolutionary when there were still Monarchists around. Since the mid 1800s left wing has always started at anti-capitalism, because liberalism was the default view.
