Jesus h christ, what is with the US and EU both, and shooting themselves in the foot these days. I was just reading today about the US medicaid changes that are coming next year and that seems like a foot-shooting maneuver that makes no sense to me (like I struggle to even understand who is benefiting from it - it seems like it’s just going to lead toward gradual implosion of the healthcare system).
This I guess I can maybe understand from the standpoint of fossil fuel industry’s hold, as unsustainable and ludicrous as it is. But that doesn’t make it at all sensible. You’d think the shit with Iran would make them more hasty to get renewable going, but I guess not???
The empire states aren’t going to have much of a country left to run soon, the way they are running them these days.
I find every empire ends up descending into absurdity in its last days.
Maybe I am trying to make it a rational strategy when it’s more like a side effect of too much believing of their own lies. It’s such a bizarre thing to witness and try to analyze.
oh absolutely, it’s really clear that these people are completely detached from material reality we inhabit

Get out of my head!
What Medicaid changes please? I have seriously and permanently disabled community members that are dying slowly but need Medicaid support for palliative care and managing symptoms.
Sorry for any resultant anxiety from mentioning it without details. Here is one source on it: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/new-medicaid-requirements-go-into-effect-in-2027-what-are-they/ar-AA1I2G8t
Under the new legislation, Medicaid beneficiaries deemed “physically fit” must meet specific conditions to retain their coverage. These include working at least 80 hours per month, with exemptions available for students, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities.
FWIW, people with disabilities are exempt from it, from the looks of it. But overall, it’s looking like it’s going to be means-tested hellscape type stuff. Like this article says that an earlier attempt to do similar in Arkansas panned out like this:
During Arkansas’s work requirement program, for example, thousands of beneficiaries lost coverage due to difficulties navigating reporting systems, and the state spent more on administering the requirements than it saved on the 18,000 people losing coverage.
No worries, no additional anxiety, just wanted to know if it’s something new for me to manage, since I help out in the community, from physical tasks to navigating insurance and Medicare/Medicaid/SNAP and other things in my very underserved community.
And thank you for typing all that out for
no reasonthose who are reading and may be unaware. Those rules are already effective, where I live. It’s been annoying, especially the extra, unnecessary paperwork, for both individuals, and culled federal, state, and municipal employees processing the paperwork. Probably employers, too.Ohh I see. Well good on you for helping out with that stuff!

Yeah, the continual gutting of government doesn’t seem sustainable. Not sure what they expect to do with what’s left.
Kill it.
I could believe it, but it doesn’t seem like there’s much benefit from a working class that they can’t exploit because it’s dead. I spose the aim could be to reduce things to something more privatized and disjointed, but then their imperial power will decline even faster.
I slept on this before replying. That’s exactly what they want, plus just enough slaves to make it work. They want a private world. And I shudder to think what Israel will do with Indians, once they’re no longer useful.
So at what point do european members of government actually start cutting their own noses off?
The EU is almost certainly going to start an Imperial war or rev up exploitation in Africa. There’s really no way around it unless they willingly fall into failed economy status.
I don’t see how the EU can do this materially at this point being deindustrialized and having no access to energy.
